also, the owner of a plant that makes toys in China committed suicide over the weekend. do you think things are on the 'up and up' if something like this happend?

also, what do you think is the problem? too much pressure on chinese makers to cut coasts, or not enough regulation of goods coming into the U.S.?

Even when I was living in Shanghai, I tried my best to avoid buying anything Made in China. When I knew I was going to live in Shanghai for a few years, I brought enough stuff (baby milk formula, toothpaste, shampoo, vitamins, medications, food stuff, story books AND TOYS) to last me at least one year. Luckily, my company paid for the freight charges. My expat friends commented that I could open a mini store with all my own stuff!! Friends and relatives were kind enough to bring me stuff from back home whenever they visited too. See how paranoid I was!!

Even back home in my home country, I will avoid buying things that are Made in China if possible. You never know what you will get..........!! Better be careful than sorry later!!

If I knew that I would not get the 1 out a hundred that would kill me or a child then I would feel good about the 99% rule. Businessmen get pay-offs in China. How can you trust that/ The laws are bad and the workers are poor. There will always be these problems.

Well, let's see. We have all these trade agreements with China. But, yet we don't have brains enough in our commerce depts. to send Goods inspectors over there and make sure of what they're doing is up to OUR import standards, so these b-strds seem to have a few bad eggs who think they can get away with taking out their hatred of us on the most simplest of ways, what our children play with, what our beloved animals eat, and the foods we eat. Sounds like a plan to me! He--, why not, they've just snuck it all in under the radar, and they didn't even have to pair up with Russia to harm us! Sounds pretty ingenious to me. Seems as though they reverted back to the lessons from WWII when Japan was "up at the White House having tea and the emperor decides to send his little bad boys to bomb us at Pearl Harbor". These creeps learned their lessons well!

Now, anybody got any other answers besides moratoriams and just stopping all imports. Uh, let's see, what's the word? Goods embargos! Yes! That's it. I say slam it up their yazzoo!

Everybody should be worried about stuff made in China, be that toys or anything else, but especially food. They use so much pesticide and chemical stuff that I always have to think about something else when I go grocery shopping. If you go to the countryside and see how they raise their crop you just wanna stop eating all together.

I hear about these in the news a lot. I am not personally worried because I do not really buy toys for kids as present. In terms of food, we go for fish and veges locally grown, without a great deal of seasoning.

But I am concerned that the less informed are vulnerable, and could get affected and infected.

Absolutely I am now actively avoiding anything made in china with the exception of clothing as china total lack of regard to pollution and protection of copyrighted products promotes unsafe and hazardous products and even cheaper substandard and unsafe knockoffs of products.
I also glad the origin of county labeling laws are finally stared to be enforced

yes i do but then it is very hard to get products from elsewhere. I am not sure if I could completely stop buying toys as I have a kid but if is pet food or other stuffs that i could find an alternative..I would definitely stop buying until they improve and be more responsible to consumers!
