With the recent bridge and mine disasters, I'm sure many religious people prayed, and are still praying to god to save the victims. In the hours after the bridge collapse, when people were still missing, I'm sure many, many people were praying for god to save those who were buried in the rubble. I'm also sure many people are still praying to god to save the lives of the trapped miners.

So my question is this, why do you stop praying? If god is capable of performing ANY miracle, and you truly have faith in this, what's the difference between him allowing a pocket of breathable air to exist beneath a collapsed bridge, or in a mine tunnel, and him bringing a drowning victim, or an asphyxiation victim back to life weeks after the disaster?

Why don't you keep praying for months, or even years, for god to work his magic? Why not pray for missing 9-11 victims to be found? God can do anything, right?

At what point do you realize that the prayers aren't doing anything, and quit?

"V" for Vendetta, pleased to meet you... "Vengeance" is also one of MY main tenets of Life. To answer your question: WHEN should you quit praying? The millisecond that you realize that you ARE a fool for asking favor from an entity that exists no more than does Superman, or an entity who, IF he does actually exist, does NOT care enough for YOUR/OUR pleas to respect us with ANY answer, neither good nor bad., only total nonchalance at Our existence. DISRESPECT, in its purest form. I learned this brutal Truth nearly 10 years, as My beloved wife lay dying in My arms, and I "broke down" and risked the first prayer in My life, for HER. Death was "God's" only reply... In retrospect, I must inquire: Is THAT "answer" the work of a "Friend", or a FOE???

Well, one - who says once isn't enough? Does G-d need someone praying a repeative prayer over and over again in order to get the message? Do you not think that G-d gets the intent the first time around?

Two - despite the fact that G-d can do anything, we also know that death is a part of this world. There have been amazing things that have happened in life. Amazing rescues, people walking away from an accident after a semi trailer full of freight flipped on top of their car and crushed it. But at a certain time it is obvious that there will be no more survivors. It's not a matter of what G-d can do, or what even the rescuers can do. It's a fact of life. That doesn't mean that people give up. Far from it.

Three - if people continually prayed for victims to be found alive five, ten, fifteen years after an accident - would anyone move on? Would it be healthy? Even more - is it what G-d wants? To concentrate on those that have left us to the point of giving up our own lives?

You claim in this question that people stop praying. They don't. It is the statement of someone that lost G-d long ago and is searching for ways to undermind those of actual faith.

Most people including so called Christian have no knowledge of the time they are living and why. Then there are questions such as this, that is asked to mock. However the question does have an answer, and here it is. Jesus ( God ) the creator of all things seen and unseen said, in the last days there will be no sign given. People want to see a sign that God is real, then maybe, the people would believe. The fact is even with miracles people will not believe. One more thing all humans die, they because of sin, and sin blinds, meaning people don't know when they are wrong.

R&S top dog asking such a question how the mighty have fallen? One prays to god for all the people all the time not those trapped and dying, under the ground/under the seas, in the air, all around this place " Earth " not just to save the bodies but to lead the spirits - that eternal everlasting part of man/woman - into a fellowship with our lord Jesus Christ. There was/is/never will be a place for any real christian to say that is enough : With my dieing breath I will hope that there is some person there by my side that I could help see the power of our belief by watching me take that last breath knowing that in life I have helped everyone that knew me know there is a Jesus christ waiting for you to call him and come home with me. AMEN!

We pray for God's will, not ours. You cannot force the hand of God. We pray for everyone we can. Sometimes God's answer is yes, sometimes it's no. Sometimes He's silent. Sometimes He wants us to wait. Do you pray, or know anything about praying to God? Are you some kind of prayer expert or something? Just asking.

I have seen the power of prayer work more times than I can tell you. You have no idea what God can do.

For me, my limit to praying about disaster stuff is 3 times.

God hears me.

However, for matters of life long concerns, I pray for many times over many years.

My prayers do accomplish things; God answers them. Sometimes, he answers them very quickly and amazingly.

God is pleased with my prayers, even if the answer is no.

Sometimes, it takes time for break-throughs. Being an un-believer, you wouldn't understand, but there's a spiritual war going on - in the heavenly realms and it takes time for answers in some cases.

God has not committed the condition of the world to Angels. He works through people, and one of the ways he does so is through prayer. (some say that's the most significant way).

But, you're too smart to believe that. It's stupid people like me who believe it.

When you see someone miraculously healed in front of you, after prayer, it's pretty easy to be "stupid". Not so easy to be smart like you.

One doesn't stop praying. You are being assumptious. You are assuming that such is what we do. No one can speak for everyone and that is the same reason that one should not put all Christians in one group because the people are not all the same. Each person has his or her own beliefs. It's the same thing as One Christian can not save another Christian. One has to worry about one's own salvation.
It would be mind boggling to pray for every need in the world and that would be placing ourselves in a position to tell God what to do.
The ideal prayer was stated in the Holy Bible and is commonly known as "the Our Father". Myself, in relation to disasters I put the thing out of my mind when it quits making the news, to do otherwise would be to lose one's sanity. As to your insinuation of praying for God to raise the dead, I'm sure that he can if he wants to but that would be his will. We can only pray for God's will. To pray for things that are not God's will is senseless. If it would be the will of God to resurrect the twin towers he would have done so, already. To keep on and on each day would be senseless because one has to have the sanity and mentality to know when something is the will of God and not the will of God.
As for you placing me a sterotypical group, situation and judging me as a sterotype, the situation is a two way street and I could say sterotypical things about you but I do not judge other people, I only pray that God will have mercy on them.

i think of you're assuming that each and every person Christians do no longer volunteer for alleviation efforts, do no longer furnish temporary housing to displaced victims, do no longer donate money, do no longer deliver human beings canned products and factors, take a seat on their butts all day and are Republican. As a Christian who volunteers for her community, donates outfits and food to orphanages and relatively frankly does not particularly understand something approximately political events, i'm able to inform you that your assumptions are relatively defective. Christians pray for disaster victims because of fact we've self assurance in God and that He facilitates human beings and each little bit counts.

As for myself, I pray for all people at all times and in all circumstances! For me there is not a set limit as to how long I pray for one or for many! When the Good Lord calls us home, that is that! No prayer from anyone will be able to inter fere, you do not know the time when your Lord will call you home. No man does, so pray without ceasing for all souls in every given situation! Respectfully, Laura.

Do you feel superior when you put Chrisians down for praying..I'll bet you wouldn't mind someone praying for you Mother or Daddy if they were dying..It is amazing what being faced with the end, can do to people...We'll see how you feel on your deathbed. I think you will very afraid...and not quite so superior then.
