Buy the big stuff and the expensive stuff. The furniture. Computer. Decorations for the house. Most of the other stuff you'll get in presents. Or save money and buy what you don't get as a wedding present.

I guess you could buy some furniture if you're not already living on your own. Remember though, you don't have to have EVERYTHING to start out! It can be kind of romantic to just have a few things and each other! You'll want stuff like pots and pans, bath towels, etc.. but if you have a bridal shower, you'll probably get that stuff. Also, you'll get wedding presents! Be sure to register so you get stuff that you want and won't have to return a bunch of stuff that you don't want!
You're going to have bills, like it or not! Of course, the fewer the better, but if you're still living at home, where would you store furniture and household stuff?
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I was recently married, and I found out that it's easier to wait until after you're married to buy stuff for the house. You get a lot of it for wedding presents. Instead of buying, I would suggest registering for what you want. That way you get the stuff you need and people have ideas for a gift for you. I'm sure his mom has great intentions, but I totally disagree with her.

I disagree, you should wait until after your married to buy things you need. Most people will give you a household item as a gift, so you may get a lot of what you want. Some people may give you cash or gift certificates so then you may be able to buy some things you still want.

I say wait and see, unless you are needing furniture and household appliances. Those would be a good idea to buy in advance.

Good luck!

What does she want you to buy? Maybe furniture? linens? You will get most of the household stuff for as a gift off your registry, or at least if you register and nobody buys something, you can buy it at a discount (most places offer this). I wouldn't buy stuff just to buy stuff. I would save though. Save a lot. If you have to really think about what to buy, you don't really need it.

if you cannot buy yourself the things you want BEFORE the wedding, you will NEVER buy them AFTER the wedding. Weddings are not some magic wand that makes all the things necessary in life to appear. Your almost mother-in-law must have some experience down that road, listen to her.

If youve already been living on your own, you have everything you need. You can buy nicer stuff once you get your wedding money. She is probably talking about bath towels, kitchen items, cleaning supplies...

Ignore her. If you are okay with what you already have, why buy more? Plus you will get lots of wedding gifts so then you won't have to buy it. If you already have everything what will you put on your registry?
