The two posts above mine seem to go along the lines of 'you don't want to go to a chiropractor because you could have a compressed nerve or something else bad'
THIS IS WHAT CHIROPRACTORS ARE EXPERTS IN.
Yes, as physical therapists they have seen bad examples, but just ask a Chiropractor, they would have seen people who have been made worse from physical therapists and osteopaths, just like they all have of each other.
People move around from professions all the time.
Back and neck pain are what Chiropractors specialise in. They have proven results in pain managment in these areas. Would you rather go to somebody who has treated a few people in the area, so knows 'a bit' about it, or would you rather go to a spinal health care expert.
I would definitely see a Chiropractor.

You probably just slept in a bad position...this happens to everyone from time to time. The best things I can suggest are: 1- A hot shower, with the water heavily focused on your neck for a few minutes 2- Ibufrofen (Advil...motrin) Even these won't make it go away completely...but they will lessen the pain...the only thing that will relive this entirely is time. Usually, every hour it feels a little better...by mid to late afternoon you should be almost normal. Tomorrow you should feel fine. FYI...I highly doubt you need a chiropractor if this is a first time occurrence. If this begins happening regularly, a chiro may not be the worst idea. But this happens to even healthy people on occasion, and if its a freak occurrence, a chiro is probably an overreaction.

Please Don't, not until you have seen a GP first. I have met so many people at physical therapy that have been hurt by chiropractors. I'm sure that there are some very good ones out there, but let me tell you, there are many that don't have your best intrest in mind. There are many things that could be wrong with your back, and there are alot of nerves that could be compromised with the wrong care. And believe me, you don't want chronic back pain or nerve pain.
I hope with whatever decision you make that you get the relief that you need.

i agree with delta queen. i wouldn't advise a chiropractor and as a student physical therapist i have seen patients being referred to physical therapy because of the damage a chiropractor has done. Not all chiropractors are bad, but i believe that physical therapy should always be the first choice for patients with muscle or skeletal issues. Physical therapists aren't simply massage therapists, we are movement experts and the definative musculoskeletal experts. good luck with your pain and go to a physical therapist they'll hook you up!

yes,
ask a friend or someone you know who has been to a chiropractor that has been helpful to them... a good referral always helps.
or ask your MD if they can recommend a good one.
I work with lots of MDs & get referrals quite a bit. a good chiropractor can help you feel better & show you exercises/ stretches to make sure the problems dont return
good luck

I would seek chiropractic treatment immediately. They are excellent at getting the spine in alignment. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.

If you've tried different things to relieve the pain and it's been at least a week, I say yes. That type of pain, if it's ongoing, can lead to a lot of physical and mental stress on your body.
