Today, Al Qaida backed Sunni insurgents murdered 175 fellow Iraqis in four suicide bomb attacks. This, apparently because the victims, the Yazidis, have been declared "anti-Islam" and devil worshippers. Also, they were attacked because a Yazidi teenage girl was stoned to death by her own family back in April for running away with her Muslim boyfriend.

Now you American girls who can't wait to be the first on your block to convert to the passive and peaceful religion of Islam, take note, here.

My question to the peace-loving, friendly Muslims who frequent this forum is: what are the religious tenets which justify these kinds of actions? How can anyone defend a religion which condones things like this? Remember, these were all religiously motivated actions. How do these acts and these groups square with your concept of Islam, in general?

patisillano, what do you mean, "stepped on?" And then repeated twice. Are you implying that the US gov't had anything to do with this sequence of events? Read the reports, and the many others of violence committed by Iraquis against other Iraquis, and Afghans, and Iranians, etc. None of this can be traced to the US in any way at all. Not even the vague "stepped on" thing.

hardrockdesi, as I mentioned, these attacks are purely religious. As are many, many others. In fact, the great majority of suicide bombings in that part of the world are being proudly claimed by one religious group or another, and for religious reasons. Not my impression; *their* claim.

Halima, thank you. There was a time when I would have believed that, just as scattered acts of violence by some Christians does not represent the whole. And I know there is a tendency to generalize on the basis of reports which are by no means the general state of affairs. BUT, it seems more and more that this IS the general state of affairs and is is common throughout the Muslim world. And we see it on an almost daily basis. It would be fair to compare this to the Catholic-Protestant feud in Ireland that lasted so long, but this is so much more widespread and so many more are killed. I don't think any Irish Catholic girls were stoned to death by their own families for running away with a Protestant boy.

Tender blush, I would be inclined to accept your view as well, if not for the fact that high holy people in Islam calmly sit there justifying these things. These Imams and Ayatollahs are supposed to know the religion, aren't they? I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert, but those people are. And the people who commit these murders are regarded as heroes and martyrs, not just by their political confederates, but by their priests.

You get it.

You are in a small circle of people who "get it". The issue is all about their motive. Criticism of Islam based only on the violence of Muslims isnt warranted, the issue is why, or what motive.

The reason Islam is so nefarious and such a danger to the whole of humanity is because it so successfully inspires violence based on its doctrine or violence for its own sake.

The problem is, most people dont understand this critical distinction or are too intimidated to say anything. Islam has always been at war and the greatest genocides in human history were Islamic (Jihadist motive: see Arab Muslim Invasions of India).

EDIT: CL RICHARDSON: Very well put. "What they dont tell you" indeed! There are many thing about Islam that Muslims say, hoping you will construe one favorable meaning, when they intend something totally different.

For example, some Muslims defend all the genocide/murder ayas of the Quran by saying that Muslims cant kill "innocents". What these people intentionally fail to tell you is that "non-muslims" by definition are not innocent. Also, the term "innocent" is used only in Surah 2, where all the other genocide and murder chapters (Surahs) fail to mention any innocents, but instead are self contained commands to murder all unbelievers.

How can you explain insanity?

"what are the religious tenets which justify these kinds of actions?"
If there were any religious tenets that justify acts like these, I wouldn't have ever been a Muslim. Fact is, there are none. You can't credit anything with what is happening in Iraq except politics and greed.

"How can anyone defend a religion which condones things like this?"
Islam doesn't condone things like this. Just because people who call themselves Muslims do certain things, it does not mean they do it because they are following their religion.

"Remember, these were all religiously motivated actions."
Nothing in these actions hints to religion.

"How do these acts and these groups square with your concept of Islam, in general?"
Honestly? A pretty effed up interpretation of something that is so obviously against everything that the insurgents are doing. The only thing that they can be given leniency for is fighting soldiers who declared war on them and attacked first, but they're not following Islamic rules of warfare in any other matter so their leniency is pretty much up in smoke.

Nice sly remark to American girls, by the way. What some Muslim does half a world away is neither supported by Islam, nor by Muslims in general.
Signed,
An American Muslim girl

Oh, and BTW: some of those imams and ayatollahs you mention are paid by certain political heads of certain countries to promote whatever agenda they may have. Can you really trust anything from someone being paid by someone who's job is to lie?

No I don't think Islam does/did/shall/should/will/would condone such acts, and I will be the first person to convert to a different religion if it did. I watched the videos of stonning and of the revenge for stoning at work with some fellow muslim collegues a couple of weeks ago and I told them the exact thing I'm telling you now : Islam doesn't condone these acts.
What Islam has to do with these acts is nothing more than what Christianity has to do with Ozzy,Michael Jackson or George Bush.

ANY religion can be twisted to meet ones own agenda. One common misconception is that Hitler was an athiest. But that isn't true:
____________________________________
from http://www.ffrf.org/fttoday/back/hitler.html

You will find it in Mein Kampf: "Therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's Work."

Hitler said it again at a Nazi Christmas celebration in 1926: "Christ was the greatest early fighter in the battle against the world enemy, the Jews ... The work that Christ started but could not finish, I -- Adolf Hitler -- will conclude."

In a Reichstag speech in 1938, Hitler again echoed the religious origins of his crusade. "I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews, I am fighting for the Lord's work."

Hitler regarded himself as a Catholic until he died. "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so," he told Gerhard Engel, one of his generals, in 1941.
________________________________________
Just do an internet search of "Hitler's religion" and you will find countless more similar sites. So what religious tenets in the Christian faith justify these actions? Well, Hitler thought he had some, but I'm sure most Christians would agree that he his interpretation of Christianity is not their interpretation.
So is it possible, that just maybe there are some muslim whackos out there who simply misinterpret the muslim faith in a warped and twisted way simply to justify their means? Just something to think about.

Edit: I realize that what I've talked about above can be a touchy subject, and there is quite a bit of disagreement about how religious Hitler was. My point though, is not that he was religious, but that from time to time he used it as a justification when needed.

you cant blame Islam for something a group of individuals have done.Their action was probably done as a distortion of their view to what was right in Islam.

Its the individuals that are to blame
not the religion

This is going to be tough for any peace loving soul to understand.
These extremists are filled with envy, arrogance, pride, and hate.
More importantly they are subject to an item known as "false wisdom", as taught by many radical imams within what they call Islam.
The Islam that they follow is not what has been prescribed by all the Prophets within recorded history.
I hope that this helps you understand my position.

i'm not muslim but i rlly don't think you should blame the religion. It's all misintepretation. You could easily take some stuff from the Bible and stretch it out to make it justifiable to kill some1. Blame not the religion as its not the religions' fault. Nobody wants ppl bad talking their religion. Would you like it if I started making fun of your religion with questions. How would u like to see questions saying ,"Jesus Christ was a ****" or "Hitler was a Christian so they should all die"?

Actually - that crisis with the Al Qaeda is about families that was seriously stepped on by the US government. Since then they have gotten more followers, also being stepped on by the US government. The only one starting wars here is the US government.
