my tv currently only supports 720p but i need 1080i.

The problem is when it is in 1080i it gives me a skinny center screen and two half screens on the side.

Yes. The TV will simply take the 1080i input signal and display it as 720p... no worries.

Well you could always try the manufacturer's website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your TV. It is possible that with an upgrade you may get 1080i support.

I find that astonishing....All HDTVs, irregardless of the NATIVE Resolution are designed to read 480, 540, 720, 960 and 1080 signals and process them to fit the screen.....

I haven't seen one that does 720 only....
If you have Discovery HD or HDNet channels and you recieve them, then you are looking at 1080 transmissions....

Of course any source of signal, be it cable or Xbox 360 will give you a choice of 1080 or 720 video output too....

So you should be able to access any and all forms of transmission....

no, your tv physicly doesnt have enough pixels
