This may seem like an odd question, but don't worry, I'm not planning to kill myself.

I'm wondering though - if you attempt suicide and fail, would you have to take antidepressants if you were under eighteen? Would you if you were over eighteen? If so, for how long? Does it vary very much from person to person? Is there any kind of time range? If you did have to take them when you were under eighteen, could you choose to stop when you got to eighteen?
All answers (providing they are serious and answer my questions) are appreciated. Thank you very much.

Well, if you attempted suicide, you'd be placed in a psychiatric hospital for a minimum 72 hours. You would be given medication while in there. A child under the age of 18, well their parents could make them take meds. Over the age of 18, you're an adult and the choice is really yours. If you're an adult living with parents, well the parents may push you to take them anyway.

You asked a lot of questions. I'm going to answer all of them with the simple statement that antidepressants aren't dangerous, they help relieve depression but are not a magic bullet for chronic clinical depression. Psychotherapy and a personal will to change thinking habits is also needed in this case.

Definitely if a person of any age attempted suicide and failed he would be made to seek treatment; it is a crime yet in many states. Antidepressants and possibly anti-psychotics would be given as well as psychotherapy. This is as it should be for attempted suicide is very serious. The person who seriously attempts suicide is very ill. His/her attempt is a cry for help.

For more definitive info on these subjects type in, "Suicide", "Depression" and "Anti-depressants" into Yahoo! web search, one at a time. Many links will come up. Wikipedia is a good summary in all cases.

Good luck, good health, peace and love!

an incredible style of the time docs won't prescribe anti depressant drugs to those who're below 18. you will must wait and notice how long you may desire them. a doctor will visual demonstrate unit your progression and stop drugs while they sense it incredibly is risk-free. you may keep taking antidepressants into adulthood, in spite of in case you may definately stop. it ought to no longer be recommended nonetheless counting on your indicators.

was on meds before I attempted suicide on anti-depressant meds.. yeah I was screwed up. I am under 18 also and they still wanted me on medications but I said no. you have to keep taking them until your doctor says so but I didn't listen to my doctor because she knew crap and I decided for myself. there are specific meds you have to be over 18 like cymbalta
