My wife was driving in the center lane when she was hit by a car at the rear. Due to this impact, she was pushed to the right lane and she hit the vehicle in front of her in the right lane. At the scene, my wife told the above and the guy behind us agreed that the above happened. But when the report came out from the police, it says that my wife hit the vehicle in front of her and had stopped. Vehicle 3 at the back could not control in time and hit her at the back.. Why would the office lie in the report and present a new version? Added to this, he has depicted that the vehicle in front of us was in front of us in the center lane while it was in the next lane(rightmost lane)? What should I do in this situation? I callled the police station and they said that the report is final and cannot be changed? I think, its unfair to me since i have been a victim and they have made me a culprit. Please advice.

the report can be amended. have your wife, since she is the party involved, call and speak to the reporting officer or their supervisor about the errors in the report.

Contact the insurance company and explain this to them. They will provide a lawyer for you if needed. FYI, insurance companies do not rely solely on police reports.

They will also contact the witnesses and do an investigation of their own to determine the at fault driver for payment purposes.

As far as the crappy report goes, I'm sorry it happened to you. I can think of 100 reasons he screwed up the report, but it doesn't matter, it was bad police work.

I sympathize with you wholeheartedly. I've also been a victim in a similar situation, and so has my nephew. You will probably get nowhere on this issue unless you hire an attorney. I know that is not fair that you will have to prove what you are saying, and you are being made into the culprit, but it is the world we live in. If you can hire an attorney, or you can get someone in your family and friends to help you with finding one, do so. It is worth every dollar.

well...the Officer wasn't there when it happened...I'm sure he was merely going by the evidence at the scene, witness/driver statements, and his own personal and professional experience...the report is never final...the Officer can file an amendment to his initial report if enough evidence exists to do so...chances of that are slim to none unless you can find someone willing to file a written statement that backs your version of the events...good luck

save a duplicate of the record on your man or woman information, save a duplicate on your coverage corporation (mail this to them and clarify what the cop did incorrect--be expert), and then pass your aspects police branch and get that fixed. She made a brilliant mistake and could desire to probable be positioned on probation for screwing up the record that undesirable.

If you believe that it was incorrect then you need to go down to the police station and if the guy that hit you is in agreement that this is what happened then you need to call him and bring him along.

It is quite possible your recollection differs from witness accounts. As a former officer I can tell you its amazing what some people "think" happened in a traffic accident that skid zones, eye witness accounts from other parties and crash points just don't verify. Sorry.
