Today I went to the vet for my 10 month old Border Collie Mixs' 2nd puppy vist.
She got her 2nd shots & got checked for worms. Well, actually she is being potty trained so she sleeps in a kennel at night. Well, I was cleaning the kennel & found some worms in there. I brought them to the vet today & they we're round worms. They checked her stool & she had hook worms in there. They gave me some medicine to get rid of them. My question is, how do they go away? Does she poop them out? Or do they just die/disappear? I forgot to ask my vet this question & they are closed now. I am really needed to know so when she poops & if there's stuff in it I'm not thinking something is wrong with my puppy, Maddie.

To the first person who answered, I've only had her since July 16, 2007. And I've been getting her shots & today was her 2nd puppy shots & her getting dewormed. I am taking good care of my pup or else I wouldn't be getting her shots, getting dewormed, etc.

To the 3rd one who answered, I got her heart worm medicine today that the vet told me about. Some chewable pill.

Well, worms are very common in puppies, so don't worry.
You may or may not see the worms pass. Sometimes if there aren't a lot, the worms will be absorbed before they are passed, but sometimes you will see them in the stool. Either way, it is normal and fine.
The only way to be certain all the worms are gone is to do a stool sample 2 weeks after the final dose of wormer.
Get your dog on heartworm preventative if not already. The heartworm meds take care of most other worms as well, so you know she will be clear of worms.

Once the wormer is administered the adult worms will die and be evacuated with the puppy's poop. It may take a day for the worms to die, and then several more days for all of them to be "pooped" out. It'll be sort of gross-looking, to see all the worms come out, but it won't last forever.
The wormer may make the puppy's poop look "soft", and may also result in a tiny bit of blood and/or mucus in the puppy's poop. As long as this in minimal, and goes away once all the worms are flushed from the pup's body, the pup should be okay.
Keep in mind that wormers usually only kill adult worms, and not any of the undeveloped "baby" worms that might be in the pup's digestive tract... so the pup should be wormed again in about 2 weeks to make sure any developing baby worms also get killed.

The medicine will kill the worms and they'll be discharged in her bowel movement. Once she gets all her shots and she's about 6 months you need to re-worm her. Usually twice a year. I do mine in the spring and fall. If she's on heart worm medicine you shouldn't have to. Also nobody tells you this anymore but for all those pet lovers(cats & dogs). You to need to get worm medicine for your self. If your animal has them chances are you do too and if you have small kids then you do have them.

Well i am not 100% sure but i think the medicine used for hook worms is suppose to kill them inside and poops them out. So i am guessing both. Sorry about your pup, hope he gets better.

They die, she poops them out. You should worm her once a month. All dogs should be wormed on a regular basis. It is just part of good pet care.

The medicine will kill the worms and she will poop them out. Now you should carefully dispose of her poop too. Some may not be dead.

That is normal. Some moms stop caring for the puppies sooner than other moms. 10 pups is a lot. Bring a stool sample to the vet and they can give you the correct wormer for the pups. If the vet wont, then find another vet.

Since the roundworm is in your pups digestive track, your pup will pass it through after the medicine kills it.

She'll poop 'em out. Just make sure you clean up her poops so she or other dogs don't get (re)infected!

yes, your puppy will poop them out. The medicine kills them and she will excrete them out.
