If it were me, I would go with a 03/04 cobra engine. These engines come stock with all forged internals and a manely H beam rods. These engines have been tested time and time again and have been proven time and time again to be phenominal and support up to 1000hp. There is a guy at the track I go to that runs a cobra engine in his 06 gt mustang, I just dont remeber if he kept the stock 4 valve per cylinder set up that the cobra engine comes with, or if he went with a custom 3 valve per cylinder set up. Obviously, you get better performance with the 4 valver per cylinder set up but I dont know if this isnt applicable with the new gt mustangs as there stock engine is a 3 valve per cylinder engine. I wish I would have paid more attention now. If you do this with a 2.6L kenne bell and the other upgrades you have planned, your car will be so f'ing awsome it is unbelievable. I would be extremely jelous of your car. You would be running around 600-700rwhp and low 10 or even high 9 second 1/4 mile passes. If you would, please put my name in your friends list and keep me updated. I am a huge mustang fan and spend much of my time at the track.

P.S. Ford doesnt offer a forged internal engine components option and the only current production engine that has forged internals is the 5.4L engine that is being put in the shelby gt500. Good luck with whatever route you chose to go, keep me updated. Mike

If it were me, I would get the mustang gt in a second. There is no replacement for displacement and the mustang is the only v8 car in the bunch. They respond amazingly well to modifications and for very little money can be made much faster due to the fact that you are working with a v8 engine. Mustangs have excellent reliability and resale according to kelly blue book, consumer reports, and JD power. Like I said, it would be an absolute no doubt decision for me. You have to look at your financial situation though. If buying a mustang will make you have to worry about having enough money to pay bills and get by on a week to week basis then just stick with your Altima. I think the Altima is a pretty cool car on its own so its not like you are stuck with a crappy car. Especially with all the awesome extras you have in it. So you are in a no lose situation, either way you end up with a sweet car. I know for me, I love the ability to know I can come to a stop in a merge lane and not worry about who pulls up next to me because I will be able to out merge them, or the ability to down shift on the freeway and go from 60 to 80 in a second or be able to blow by guys on the on ramp. The gt mustang is still the fastest new car you can buy today for the money, there is not a new car you can buy today for the same amount of money as a mustang gt or less that is faster then one. I just love the freedom and speed of a fast car more then I do the luxury options.

No Ford dealerships will offer your 05+ Mustang GT with a forged engine as any type of normal deal. There may be one or two that do a special run like Tasca Ford did/does back in the older days. Your best bet will be to go to one of the following places:

VT Engines
Modular Powerhouse
and so on.

I have a VT 4.6 billet bottom end in my Ford vehicle and it set me back about $4,500 IIRC. For a VT forged 4.6 shortblock you are looking at about $2,700-$3,200 depending on what particular internals you want with it. If you are going with a KB2.6 I would reccomend that you go with the VT Engines GT Sportsman iron shortblock at a minimum. VT is based out of Lansing, MI.

As for your other stuff like the KB 2.6 and so on just do an internet search. I have the KB 2.2 on my truck and installed myself. I believe KB is only selling to authorized dealer/installer shops now so your best bet would be to go to www.kennebell.net get their contact info, give them a call and ask them if they have a local-ish installing dealer in your area. Good Luck. If you go to such website forums as www.modularfords.com and www.modularpowerhouse.com and become a member allot of us long time members and performance shop owners will be able to provide you with more concise answers.

Check with JPCracing.com He just used a 03-04 Terminator shortblock with 3V heads on his 05. This way you can keep the stock engine for restoring it later down the road. He offers the conversion motormounts to use the Terminator (03-04 Cobra) block which has all forged internals and a steel crank.

Order a crate engine from Ford racing. Specify what you want in it and they will build it.

If you want steeda suspension, then you have best to to steeda to get it.

The other thing is to go to a speed shop and have them build you an engine. Ask around in Delaware about good shops. Check with local car clubs or make a trip to a local drag strip, they'll know who's good. If you have the money, somebody will have the time. good luck.

I had been told that the new Ford engines 4.6, 5.4 and the V-10 already have forged crank and rods. I could be wrong, but I thought that was standard???
