Indeed, global warming would be even more apparent if there weren't so many particulates in the air blocking sunlight. And the small cooling period from 1940-1970 was due to global dimming, but cleaner emissions and increased greenhouse gas emissions have caused global warming to overwhelm global cooling since then:
