Chiggers, otherwise mis-said as jiggers, are driving me nuts! They bit me a few days ago and I've been itching my legs like crazy! I have like 30 bites total and want to know how to rid myself of them! >> It's imporant. I'm itching so badly that my legs are now bleeding from scratching so hard.

Soak in an epsom salts bath and then get straight vitamin E oil (crush a capsule if you don't have the oil by itself on hand for moisturizer) and oil each spot individually and thoroughly. It smothers the chigger and heals the skin. Good luck!

Once the chigger is done feeding after a few days, it falls off. However, the feeding tube structure is left behind. The tube is characterized by a red welt with a white, hard central area, which may develop into dermatitis. What people usually notice in the center of the hive is the tube and not the body of the chigger.

The stylostome or feeding tube continues to irritate the skin even after the chigger has left. The skin continues to intensely itch and contain hives or welts. The longer the chigger was able to feed, the deeper the feeding tube and consequently the greater the severity of the symptoms. The symptoms caused by the stylostome can continue for two to three weeks. Scratching the dried cap off the top of the stylostome will result in some liquid oozing out and possible infection.

Well, this won't necessarily help with the itching (at least not instantaneously) but it will kill them. Paint clear nail polish over the bites, and the chiggers will die (they'll suffocate). It doesn't have to be clear nail polish of course, but I doubt you want a lot of colorful spots on your skin.

You have something worse than chiggers. A shower and scrubbing your legs with a shower brush and a good anti-bacterial soap should get rid of chiggers.

argh! Chigger bites itch so bad!!! Here are a couple ideas: pour a cup of bleach in your bath water & soak in it. It will burn like hell, but as I recall, it works. this I know for sure works, that's apply a dab of nail polish on each bite--it blocks out the air & they die. In the future, take time released Vitamin B complex before you go into a biting bug infested area--works good on mosquitos, fleas, ticks, etc.
