There have been committees looking into such a connection and top general Pace has determined with "quite a bit of certainty", that Iran is not involved in supporting the Iraqi militants and/or arming them.

I think this is a good idea, if I was playing Risk with a friend. In real life this is a retarded idea. If we can barely contain the conflict in Iraq, what makes us think we can expand the war? And don't be fooled, Iran is only the middle-man, those weapons ultimately come from China and Russia. If we invaded Iran, or even just bombed them, those countries (and others) would step up their support for the insurgency, leading to even worse problems down the road.
I am not saying that military assault against Iran is totally off the table, but they would have to do something like try and close the Persian Gulf off before i think we'd need to attack.

A terrible idea. We need to find a way to get out of Iraq, not make it into a larger conflict. Bombing Iran would only make Iran retaliate.
