Because it always annoyed me... Anti-social does not mean withdrawn from society, it's more of an 'against the rules, disregard for the rights of others' thing. As we see in 'Anti-Social Behaviour Order' for people found destroying property, causing a disturbance, etc..
Now we have that sorted...
Personally, I use earphones but I still keep it on high volume with the knowledge that they may be able to hear what I'm playing because I've convinced myself I'm more comfortable not being able to her other's conversations and that I'd rather hear my music than the traffic. I also like my music a lot so there's probably a large part of me wanting to show it off to other people, which is stupid because what they hear probably isn't going to sound as good as the real thing. (x I will occasionally turn it down if I realise it's too loud. It also hurts your ears after a while. :3
I think it's quite similar in other people. They're either anxious or have social problems and it helps focus their mind on other things as oppose to what's going on around them. Or, if they're not using earphones, they're trying to get attention and show off what they listen to and what they're affiliated with. People are often very proud of what they listen to, they feel it represents them and sends a message to others, it's quite a personal thing.
People are becoming more anti-social as time goes by, it seems. It seems to be a fad, I have no idea how acting violent and inconsiderate is a popular idea, I guess it's very much an upbringing and enviroment thing.

I think those people have no consideration for others. As to why they don't care about other people's feelings, there are lots of ideas. Maybe their parents didn't instill discipline, maybe their parents instilled too much discipline, maybe they hate the world, maybe they're just selfish, maybe they lack empathy for others, the list goes on and on.
I do know that such a thing does not happen on the buses in the city where I live. Mainly because the bus drivers can and will throw a person off the bus for playing music too loud. (I've seen it happen!) Even if the person is wearing a headset and the person next to him can hear it, the bus driver will tell the person to either turn it down, turn it off or get off the bus. All public transit systems need to have that rule and be willing to enforce it.

Being antisocial and inconsiderate are two completely different things. Anti-social people just don't prefer company, and it's NOT abnormal nor is it some "disorder" as other people put it. Would YOU want some random stranger chatting you up on the train? Nothing wrong with keeping to one's self. With that said, inconsiderate people who blare their music and don't bother with headphones are just jerks who are probably out for attention. In a way they're the ones with problems, not the people who don't want to deal with others. Jerky people like that are looking to get a rise out of others and most of the time no one bothers to tell them to stop. It's frankly just bad upbringing that these people act so selfishly.

It is because people have become so rude and self-centered that they care absolutely nothing about anyone else or the world around them. They are "socially retarded" and have no manners, tact, or people skills.
Why should you expect anything less, when people make babies and the kids spend their formative years in day care, plugged into Ipods, and spend all of their time on the computer? Let's not forget to add some entitlement genes, and their parents telling them how wonderful, special or gorgeous they are.
Is it any wonder why these people are unable to socialize?
How come some people talk to an Internet stranger in S. Africa four times a day, but don't know their next door neighbor's name?
Forgive my ranting, but this is my take on it.

I like the 'wild west' solution...If someone annoys you, put a large piece of lead travelling at three miles a second through the wrinkled bit of their forehead which denotes they are trying to think about something...
If that is not satisfactory...call the police...that was a joke by the way....

Because they are socially ignorant and selfish. I am with you on this one. Ditto mobile phones on trains and in libraries. I am listening to some gory details of someone's boil on the bum in the library as I write. Disgusting behaviour.

Some people just don't care about being inconsiderate to others for some reason. The best thing to do is to just try to ignore it if you can.

A friend of mine, who had a young baby at the time, was forever asking his neighbour to turn his music down when it got to around 11 p.m.
One night it was particularly bad, so he went round again, asked him to turn it down and the neighbour told him to get f*cked.
So my mate knocked him out cold with a single punch, stepped over him, ripped his stereo out of the socket and threw it in the road.
He got fined for assault, but he still says it was worth it.
I have to agree !

OK first of all the word "anit-social" has nothing to do with people who crank their music.
Anti-social means someone who is withdrawn from society and generally has no friends.
As for the music thing, did you ever stop and think that maybe they just feel like listening to it for the hell of it?? Why don't YOU get earphones??
Get over it, there are far worse things in life to worry about than that.
