Our department - it varies, but following is a possibility
1 for the voice radio
1 for the MDC (computer)
1 for a scanner
1 for a second radio (different band of frequencies, possibly)
4 for a LoJack receiver
1 for the standard AM/FM radio

I know I have 3 antennas on my car, plus a GPS sensor. I only have one radio, an MDT and a regular car radio. My police radio has a multitude of channels for other agencies on it so I have no idea if the other antennas are for those channels.

They have all the computers in there and walkie talkies to charge. You need signal to use the computer it's like the computers at home you have a box with like 3 or 4 antennas coming out to get connection it's just like that for a cop car.Under cover cops dont have computers they have those clickers to find out how fast you're going or to watch a house until a cop car get's there

Mostly good answers. Also Lojack requires 4 or 5 antennas alone.

Why do police cars have so many antennas on them?
If you know the answer then please elaborate on why some unmarked cars have several antennas and some have none?

I have one broadband connection and one radio in my car, that I drive 4 nights a week, and I have no clue why there are so many antennas.
I never really thought about it. Good question.

Different antennas are for different radios he uses. The ones without any antennas use walkie-talkie radios.
