Is this normal? I'm 13, nd I've been scared of bugs for as long as I can remember, but daddylonglegs' scare the hell out of me. If I see one, I run out of the room and get my brother, who usually kills them for me, but if he doesnt, I'm scared to go into that room for hours, and if I have to, I usually run out the second I see it, in tears or close to it. Is itnormal to be this scared of something?

Being afraid of bugs or anything is not abnormal. They are called "phobias," and are very common. What could be a problem is if your fear is getting in the way of you living a normal life. You seem to be able to function normally, but may find it easier to keep your room clean and less likely to be inhabited by the little creatures. If you find your fear is preventing yourself from living a normal life, then tell your parents, see your doctor and develop a strategy for overcoming or compensating for your fear.

Yes it is perfectly normal. I am 32 and I have to get my 5 year old daughter to get rid of daddylonglegs. It is just the way that they seem to know who doesn't like them and then they home in on that person and those long dangly legs. They are evil horrible little creatures. I remember when I was young and I went to stay and my Grandparents up in Glasgow. They lived in a tennament and during certain times of the year there would be millions of daddy long legs and they would kamakazi into you and I hate them.

EDIT: Can I just say also any other insect I am perfectly fine with, I can tolerate a spider on the wall a fly buzzing around the room, a moth flying into the lightbulb whatever, but I must be giving off some hormone that attracts daddy long legs and they home in on me!!

It's normal if you've had a bad experience with spiders before. Otherwise you need to work on this phobia to calm down your fear somewhat. Maybe through counseling.

My best friend was putting some clothes in her kids dresser drawers and she had the feeling someone was watching her. She looked up and a spider with a body as big as a laptop was staring at her very still on the dresser. She ran outside and got a 2 x 4 and clubbed it to death. There were guts all over the floor and walls. She moved out the next day. Now she cries every time she sees a spider.

Let me tell you a story first. Not to scare you or anything but as a little kid I actually liked bugs and I played with them. My favorite ones were June bugs (In the summer we would tie a string to their back leg and fly them like little copters. Then let them go of course), Firer flies (Catch them and put them in a jar. The one that caught the most wins. Then let them go),Rolli-polli's look for them under rocks pick them up and see them roll in a ball. Never hurting them of course) Then of course of all the spiders Grand-daddy-long-legs were the only ones I ever really would pick up and play with. Why? Because they were the only ones I was never afraid of being bit by. We picked them up by the back leg and we had a little chant we did. (Grand-daddy, grand-daddy which way did our cow go? Then like magic to a kid the grand-daddy would move one of it's front legs as if to be pointing where the cows had gone. This was a really old old country game. We always let him go once he told.)

As a child I had a great love and respect for all that God created, even bugs. If I found a bug in the house like a fly or a lady bug or even a spider I would take a jar or tissue and catch them and take them bck outside. Now my kids do that too. I have never been hurt doing this.

I still don't really like killing bugs except the exclusion of fleas, roaches, ticks, skeaters and the like. Now those are a whole other ball game.

We all have fears of things. Many fears are there to keep us safe. Like don't pet a lion or run in traffic. But when fears are irrational or interfere with our lives then it can be a problem.

I had a fear for year to drive. I was afraid I would die in a car wreck. Now this was a real fear with irrational thinking. It limited my being able to do many things. In todays world I needed to drive.

I finally had to face my fear. How did I do it. Just by the fact one day I just had no choice. I had to. I still get a tad nervous when I go to a new place but even that is getting better. I consider my fear level down from a 10 and I just couldn't even think of driving without being scared to a 1 and I hardly think about it any more.

Bugs are out there. Everywhere. If you let your fear get the best of you infact there would be no place on earth you wouldn't have fear. That is no way to live. This is not normal at all. You may need to seek professional help with this one. Because the only way to get over a fear like this on your own would be to just handle as many different kinds of bugs every day till you a desinatized to them. The more you fear them the more the fear grows.

I love living much more now. Do you love living with this fear? Is it bad enough to do something about it? Only you can answer this question. Good luck! Evita

yeah I'm scared of spiders too but I have actually gotten to where I can kill them and not cry when I see them. You need to look them up online and find out everything you can about them. This has helped me a bunch. For instance did you know that daddylong legs are the one of the most deadly spiders in the world but they can't bite us. They are good for killing other spiders that can like the brown recluse. Find as much information because knowledge is the start to getting over your fear.

Yes, it's normal. It's a phobia. If you're scared of spiders, the saying is called arachnophobia. I'm sometimes scared of them, too. I used to not be afraid of black widows, but when I think of them and how poisonous they are, I get the creeps. It's normal to have fears sometimes on whatever it is you're afraid of. Everyone has them. I don't think daddylonglegs are poisonous or harmful though. Just kill them yourself! =) Grab a paper and SLAM! lol. =)

OMG I am so with you girl! I am PETREFIED of spiders!!! Daddy long legs don't bug me that much though because they are "nice" as my mom says. They eat all of the evil bugs.

To answer your question, yes it is normal to be scared of something. Like whenever I see a spider it feels like i have a million crawling all over me! EEK!

Almost much everybody is scared of something be it snakes, heights, spiders or even feet.

You are just really really scared. Is there something in your past like that would make you so scared of them? Think about it. Hope I could help!

I'm also scared of insects, i prefer to get someone to trap them and set them free though. The best way to deal with it is to grab an empty glass an place it over them, then slide a bit of card under it and then you can release it without even touching it. Yes i know even that is hard to do! But its the best solution for you and the bug!
