It seems that a lot of celebs or stars wear necklaces, (especially crosses) which cost lots of $, yet they are only doing this to make a fashion statement. How do you feel about this?

Jewelry is jewelry. What is on the inside is what counts.

I think a person should only wear a religious symbol once they know the meaning and beliefs behind it and if they believe in those as well. If you wear a cross your showing others that you are a christian and believe in the "messiah", although the cross is a pagan symbol of man and the elements but its now commonly a symbol associated with only christianity, if you wear a star of david you are saying you are jewish and hold to those beliefs. Symbols can be dangerous when not used properly with a good deal of respect. And symbols shouldn't cost a ton of money, they should be simple and available to everyone so that people can wear them as an expression of their beliefs.

Being agnostic and definitely non-Christian, I personally would not wear a cross or other obvious religious symbol, but it is of no concern to me if others do so. I have seen crosses as items of jewelry which were pretty and might simply be attractive to anyone as a fashion statement as you suggest. A devout Christian might be offended by a nontheist's wearing the sacred symbol of their faith regarding that as sacrilegious. I would generally assume that a person wearing religiously themed jewelry was demonstrating his or her belief system.

yes their rather like transvestites(nothing wrong with them) they just seem to enjoy opposites.and after all a symbol really is just a symbol.Nothing more nothing less, the cross could have easily had been the sword which pierced his side , then everyone would have viewed this as the sign of god, the cross was a roman torture and execution device.when you think about it if an ancient roman would come to this time, with all the crosses he would think we were barbarians. All about perspective.

I just don't understand why someone would do that. I would never wear a symbol of a religion other than my own - simply because it isn't my belief. Why, then, would anyone wear a symbol of something in which he doesn't believe?

How do you know the people you see wearing them aren't religious?

It's just jewelry.

That bugs me really bad.

Especially when someone of a different religion goes around wearing a cross... or some idiot wears a pentagram because they thought it was just a nifty looking star....

idiots...

It can be confusing, but I have no serious objection. I know lots of nontheists who collect angels and unicorns but don't believe in either.

What can you do? As long as I have a relationship with Jesus. You can tell other people but, it's up to them to listen!
