Yes the dog stays outside 24-7 the breed of my dog is a pit bull and she is the sweetest friendliest dog. My boyfriend lives out in the country a little bit and he swears thats country folk leave their dogs outside well the ones in his neighborhood. He loves dogs and he does have shelter for her a dog house and shade and we always keep her bowl full of water and then we spray her surrounding area with cool water, But I still think thats not enough. I grew up with 3 dogs 2 big ones and 1 small 1, but we kept the dogs inside and out so when I found out he never lets the dog inside I freaked out a little bit. and thank you everyone for your commits. I feel like it is still to hot to have her outside though. I just had a talk with him and he listen to me and agreed a little bit so hopefully we can get her inside sometimes and if not I hope we can find a good home for her.....

There is no reason that you can't leave the dog outside all the time, as long as there is shelter, food, water, and if the weather is cold or wet, that the shelter will protect the animal from this. On the other hand, why even have a dog if all you want to do is go outside every once in a long while and throw a ball or play for a few minutes, then go back inside. Dogs are pack animals, if you don't want them in your pack, then why torment them with a life of isolation, which is all you accomplish by keeping them outside. Loving a dog from the inside doesn't accomplish the task of pack integration. Give the dog to a rescue group. If you have two outside, that changes the isolation, but still doesn't integrate the dogs into your pack. They will be happier when there are two of them stuck outside though.

When I lived in the country with four dogs, a dozen cats, three horses, pigs, a goat and chickens the dogs were able to be in the house about any time of the day. I had one that would come in the house and be gone in a couple of minutes, she did not like the house. The rest were in and out all day long, we left the back door open. They would lay on the floor in the evening while we watched TV. Come bed time they were put out to sleep where ever they wanted, the big dog house, on the deck or out under the trees. Dogs have to be part of the pack so I say keeping them out 24/7 is not right!
Of course leaving the door open led to having the goat coming into the house and one time a horse. Ever had a horse in your house? The dogs I had were like having horses in the house. I had a little Collie mix, a Old English Sheepdog, a St. Bernard and an Irish Wolfhound/Great Dane mix.
My four dogs now are in the house more then outside, I have a doggy door and they come and go as they want. I have a Chi/Rat Terrier, a Beagle and two American Pit Bull Terriers. They sleep on my bed with me.

There is nothing wrong with leaving your dog outside 24/7. They are animals. Before people came I'm sure that that is where they stayed. I just recently moved to the city from the country and I feel just terrible about all these animals that have to stay in or on a leash all the time.

Well, I agree 100% that dogs should be brought inside. However, when I was a kid we had a husky that would not stay inside. He ate through a wooden door to get out one day while I was at school and my parents were at work. He jumped through glass windows to get out and would get past your legs any chance he got. Now he never left the yard once outside he just would not stay in. He caused thousands of dollars worth of damage over the coarse of about 4 years before we finally decided to set him up with his own little area with a small house of his own. He loved being out in the snow and would not even lay in his house, he would dig a hole and sleep in it. He did not whine or bark to come in and never caused any damage while he was outside. Yes... leaving a dog outside is horrible but there are some occasions where it cant be avoided like this one. We were not upset about the windows or the door, more that he could have hurt himself trying to get out. He would do this if we were home or not... all of a sudden out the window he went to wag his tail in the yard. We felt bad putting him out there, but he had a great time and loved every min. of it. I guess it all depends on the animal. That was one of many dogs we have had through the years. The rest were wonderful large house friendly children to us. Im unsure of the original question that you are talking about, but this topic apealed to me so I figgured I would share this question. Good luck.

Some dogs are happy outside, really! Especially if they get lots of good attention, are not challenged by the weather, are not infested with fleas and ticks, and have a large area to play in. If you live in a climate that would cause the dog to suffer (a pit bull is fine in the summer, but does not have much coat to protect him in the winter), then I think it is just fine.

A dog needs human contact and bonding and shouldn't be left outside all day with no stimulation. It is too hot and sometimes too cold to leave a dog out. You should call the aspca on everyone elsewho thinks it is okay to leave their dogs out all night....especially those people in the country who have coyotes running around.

i have a mixed breed dog that absolutely HATES it in the house. even in the coldest part of the winter when i have tried bringing her in - she is at the door panting and wanting back out within 10 minutes. it is perfectly okay to leave a dog outside 24/7 as long as they have food, water, shelter, and plenty of attention. it is not okay to just throw them out there and forget about them. also i am not a fan of tying dogs out--i believe that they should have plenty of room to move around and even run if they want.

It is up to the owner on what to do with the dogs, but dogs are naturally outdoor animals with bodies that acclimate to their environment. The owner is responsible for giving the dog its basic needs (food, water, a shelter it can retreat to, shade) and attention (play with it).

Dogs should be treated as a member of your family. Would you leave your children or a family member outside all day/night especially if it is hot or cold??? Dogs are not toys, they have feelings just like people do. If you don't want a dog in your house then you should not have one. You should give the dog away to a family who will love her and treat her with care.

ummm .... well my dog is inside all the time because she isnt made for any hard weather and where i love we get all the weather snow , rain , heat waves , hurricanes , blizzards , and when its cold out and its raining we get raining ice coming down it kinda hurts to lol so ya we practically get it all where i live so my dog likes to stay inside ..... but if your dog is pretty sturdy and has a larg dog house and plenty of food and water it should really be fine ..
