Okay I have made previous posts and I am ready to turn myself in but I have been training. I am 6'1 225 lbs I can do 100 pushups 85 situps and I run a 11:31 2 mile. I have made many mistakes in my life and the army has been a huge one. I am wondering if there is anyway that I could remain in the army. I left due to a serious gambling addiction that would take to long to explain everything. I am ready for whatever when i turn myself in but I am just wondering if it is possible that they will ask me to finish my contract???

During the 22 years I spent in the navy I met 1 guy in your situation who was allowed to finish his enlistment. When you get your chance to tell your side of the story accept responsibility and make it clear that you want to finish your enlistment no matter what it takes. After that it's out of your hands.

Don, you are not AWOL or UA, but a Deserter. That means that the Army isn't going to let you finish your contract. They will reduce you to private, forfit all your pay and allowances, and dishonorably discharge you. You won't get to finish your contract, you will get to spend some time in the brig, and get kicked out on your @$$. You also will never see a dime of your veterans benifits like your GI Bill.

Its time in the brig for you. Thats military jail (Im sure you know). After that long I dont think they consider it AWOL and it goes beyond a certain amount of punishment. For example I dated a man in the Navy once. He missed his bus back to the base and was 6 hours late. He spent 2 weeks in the brig because of it. I cant imagine the charges you will face because of this and certainly expect dishonorable discharge. Just be ready for it though, turning yourself in after all this time is the right thing to do. The longer you wait, the worse it will be for you in the end. Good luck.

You will almost certainly actually not even certainly you will do time in the brig but after that they may or may not make you finish out your contract. My husband is currently an army recruiter and I have heard of both things happening being made to finish out the contract after time in the brigg and being restricted to the barracks also I have heard of them after time served dishonorably discharging the individual. I would make it clear when you turn yourself in that you want to finish the contract.

They are going to put you in jail, guaranteed. You deserted the military during a time of war, which is considered a grave offense. Don't get too used to sunshine, you won't be seeing it for awhile

After 2 1/2 years, you are no longer AWOL, you are considered a deserter. There is no way the army will retain you.

contact girights.org and see what advice they have to offer. also there are attorneys that deal with this awol cases but usually they are ppl wanting to get out. the army may very well let fine you but put you back into service as they are having a problem meeting recruitment goals. why not just go to the army recruiting site and call them and ask. one thing very few are thrown in the brig anymore, usually its a fine and a dishonorable discharge but i am sure they will take in account your wanting to see it through now.

I seriously doubt it they are going to ask you to finish your contract. You are listed in deserter status now. If anything, you are going to go to the brig, do some time, and then they will release you.

You voluntarily signed up for military duty, and spooked out.

That's illegal.

No, you'll go to the brig, and you don't have much of a choice.
