The Presidential race is just going to turn out to be based on- who can lie the best. We have already seen that the democrats have started there lies and twisting their voting record to try and sway the religious people.

I'd be confused just like you were I on the outside looking in at America. We can be pathetic at times. In a nutshell, liberals are considered on the left and conservatives on the right. This comes from our congressional seating layout. Republicans, the conservative party, sit on the right side of the "isle" and democrats, the liberal party, on the left. The left likes to talk allot about the religious fanaticism on the right but as an atheist as well as a member of neither party, I can assure you that all segments of America regardless of political affiliation have their fair share of religious cooks. And though many here will think I'm an idiot for saying so, all of us have a conservative view of some issues and a liberal view of others. Try not to think too badly of us. Mostly we just don't know any better.

conservatives and liberals ascribe to two different schools of political science
right wingers are conservatives. mostly for big business. also there are social conservatives which strive to bring christian morality into government.
left wingers are liberals. liberals enjoy expanding the government. due to this, taxes can increase. however, more social services can come about. once again there are also social liberals who have various agendas to bring their version of morality into the law.
democrats and republicans are two distinct political parties. you can be either a conservative or liberal and belong to either party. how the following is a good measurement:
most republicans are conservative
most democrats are liberal.
there is such a thing as a moderate. which borrows views from both schools of though. but those people don't exist in washington. manybelieve moderates are just a myth like second hand smoke. lol

John Lennon- Left Wing. Less likely to be religiously inclined. Belief in the power of the people as opposed to a diety, but actually believe this.
Winston Churchill- Right Wing. More likely to be religious (CofE in the case of an Englishman) but is a member of a religion, in most cases, purely for social standing and has no actual belief.
'Conservative' merely means someone of steadfast and puritanical political views but can be left-or-right wing, however the difference between the two wings is blurred in modern society, therefore pointing to a more 'centralised' leadership, especially in Britain, where political extremism is the only way of telling the two wings apart to any great extent; but note how Left Wong extremists (Stalin) and Right Wing extremists (Hitler) are actualy remarkably similar too.
Hope this helps!

Rigth is considered as Christian conservative. The Left is considered radical...anything goes. The Democratic party tends to be liberal, and the Republican party tends to be conservative.
Conservative... outlaw abortion, keeping drugs such as pot illegal. Liberal tends to be pro-choice, legalizing pot and other drugs, etc.
It is interesting that 45 years ago or so, the liberals were the Republicans. It just switched. One major reason all of the concern is the President appoints Supreme court Justices. This court is the final word of interpretation of the law. These appointments are permanent, until death, so crucial rulings on things such as abortion can be changed, and it may stand one way or the other for 40 or more years.
I hope this helps a little. If you want to get into state, and local, then it gets really interesting.

Republicans tend to believe in smaller government, pro-life, military buildup and the right to bear arms. They usually are more conservative. The right are the ultraconservatives and usually include evangelicals. Not all Republicans want to be considered right wing.
Democrats tend to tax more, pro-choice, more liberal in the social issues, socialist in nature such as universal health care. The left are the ultra-liberals. Not all Democrats like being called a liberal.
I think most people tend to fall in the middle somewhere. They don't want to be on the left or the right. We should have a third party.
God Bless.

Right wing was originally a movement focused on preserving the power of the states and a free market economy. Now it has fused with fundamentalist Christianity and become "The religious right" which focuses on "values" like pro-life, anti-gay marriage, and anti-stemcell research instead of important issues. They are also addicted to war and violence. Left wing is the opposite of right wing, but that too has evolved into tax-and-spend political ideology and a rabid devotion to "diversity"
You can email me for more info, this is a nutshell description cause I got to leave soon...

The Right Wing are also called Conservatives and Republicans. They are all about big business. They want money. Oddly enough, they also pander to many of the Christian values (like banning of gay marriage and abortion) with don't seem to fit together at all since Christianity is Liberal. Conservativism is about "dog eat dog".
The Left Wing are also called Liberals and Democrats. They're all about the people. They support more health care, social programs, etc. You'd think this would appeal a greal deal to Christians since their Jesus was a Liberal, but they also support things like abortion and gay marriage which the Christians loath with a passion thats disgusting.
The Republicans run the country, to be perfectly honest. Rather like Canada is a Liberal country.

All of these are in general and more or less stereotypes.
Democrat - when making policies and human decisions usually the one you want making the decision. When making business decisions, not the person to ask. Usually responsible for red tape.
Republican - Usually better business sense. Not the people you want to ask about making human decisions. Usually responsible for clearing up red tape, but often times in the wrong areas.
Conservative - Pretty much you can read this as fundie. Not exactly, but pretty close.
Liberal - You can pretty much read this as hippy. Pretty close but not exactly.
Left wing - Liberal
Right wing - Conservative.

Republican currently is right wing, and more conservative (supposedly)
Democrat is left wing and more liberal (again, supposedly)
We're seeing a major shift right though, as republicans dump conservative values for religious fronts and corrupt backgrounds. Democrats are picking up a few conservative values in the process.
And so the pendulum swings. :)
