I just read an article about overweight kids, and this question reminded me of it. A woman decided that her family needed to eat healthier and all of her friends got on to her and said to 'just let them be kids and let them eat whatever' and 'are you trying to get your kids to develop eating disorders?'.
My mother 'just let my little brother eat what he wanted' and now he's 13 and 250 lbs.
According to the site, she should be intaking about 1,845 calories a day. I wouldn't have her count the calories she intakes. She IS at the prime age to develop and eating disorder, and any 11 year old shouldn't be counting calories (but it's ok for you to do it without her knowing!).
If she is intaking too many calories, try giving her lower calorie foods. You don't have to say the word 'diet' to her, just 'healthy'.
Now... if you're asking this question because you think she needs more calories... that's a different story.

In my opinion I think you should plan out a meal plan making sure she intakes everything she needs for her body to function properly. And also you could count the calories for her as it could have a massive impact to her if she does it herself, do it very reasonably. Don't forget that she needs to exercise once or twice a week so she can stay fit and healthy as there isn't an exact amount for her as everyone's body is different

I don't think you should limit her calories. Of course you also shouldn't just let her eat whatever she wants. If you feed her meals, breakfast lunch and dinner, with small snacks in between it should all balance out.
Those who have grown up in the "clean plate club" find themselves having a harder time eating only what their bodies need.
Children have an easier time following their natural hunger mechanisms. Counting calories can give them a complex that could last for the rest of their lives.

you should not be counting an 11 year olds calories, you are just asking for an eating disorder. Instead focus on healthy diet with lot's of veggies fruit and protiens and carbs. Look at the healthy food pyramid. And exercise everyday

An 11 year old shouldn't be counting calories. Encourage her to eat healthy, reasonable portions and be active.

Rather than counting her calories, encourage her to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet -- lots of fruits, vegetables and low-fat protein; not a lot of processed foods, sugars, soda, etc.
Also encourage her to be active -- walk or ride bikes to get places rather than driving, participate in sports, and treat exercise as a part of everyday life.
You're helping her set patterns that will last for the rest of her life.

Whatever you do, do NOT listen to YA! dietitians / nutritionists.
They are idiots.
Do NOT worry about how many calories your child consumes in a day. As long as she's not eating Macdonald's 3 times a day she's fine. Make sure she moves around, though.
Please, do not worry about calorie intake at 11 yr old.......it will lead to 13 yr old anorexia......well not exactly anorexia but the whole "OMG !!111 MOM AM I FAT HOW MANY CALORIEZ IS DIS" , etc
She's 11, not 15.
Good luck!

She should eat when she is hungry, not count calories. Of course healthy meals and snacks, I'm not saying eat whatever she wants.
