My husband has had tonenail fungus for about 4 years. He has decided he wants to get rid of it, and we are looking for a home-made treatment first, before we try Lamasil. We've heard about Listerine, Vinagar, and Vick's Vaporrub. For those people who have tried these treatments before, do you think it wiuld be okay if he tried all these treatments at the same time? He could take the Listerine in the morning, the vinagar at noon and the Vaporrub at night. Do you think that will work or will it screw up the nail even more? Also, if you apply it do you try to apply it under the nail, or just on top of it? And, do you cut the nail back? How long does it take before you see results? Thanks!

I have no idea what would happen if your husband tried all the products at once...all he can do it try it. BTW, your husband should don't "take" listerine. The idea is to soak the toe in it for 15 to 20 minutes twice a day.

I found the listerine too time consuming to do. It was too hard to be able to sit long enough for once a day let alone twice. Of course, that is probably easier for a man. I had to always get up to tend to the kids, the pets or the house.

I never heard of vinegar.

I use vicks vaporub. I apply it twice a day; in the morning after my shower and at night before bed. I just put a coating of it on the top of my nail and some under the edge. I keep the nail short. Please note, it takes a long time for a toenail to grow out so it will be about 8 months before your husband will see any improvement. It has been almost a year for me now and the my nail is growing in healthy....half of it looks totally normal! Once it grows in completely, I expect it will all look normal again.
