You don't have to memorize everything. Books are provided for you. And the codes can change every year. The rest is an aquired knowledge, you almost have to learn as you go.
But to answer your question, It can be a good career, as with any it all depends on your employer. It pays better than front desk or M.A. psositions, and you don't have to deal with the patience as much. Provided you've blilled correctly and they don't get an incorrect bill. (But they almost always THINK their bill is incorrect when in fact they just don't know their plan.)
