Where did they come from?
it doesnt make sense to me that Mosah got them from the mountain...
Many scholars believe that they were taken from the Egyptian religion, as the egyptian "book of the dead" has 10 holy laws very similar those in the old testiment.

Many think they are sensible political guides for a new society that the israelites were trying to build...

but its all a lil misty to me - any views??

Hebrew scholars have known for centuries that Moses didn't write the Torah. (the first five books of the bible) Scholars, through studying the language, know there were actually 4 different authors. None of which lived in the time of moses. They can even pinpoint which century and in which kingdom each author lived. The church either knew this when they put the bible together and lied. Or they actually didn't know who wrote them. They just found some scrolls and assumed they were written by moses. Either way, it's an unreliable myth and even the church doesn't know who came up with the 10 commandments.

They were written when Moses went up to the holy mountain of Jehovah. Jehovah wrote them with help from an angel.

Then Moses went down and saw the people had already turned to pagan Gods so he broke the tablets and killed the offenders.

He went back into the mountain and got 2 more tablets .

The ones that did not appreciate Jehovah and want to follow his laws were to die before the promised land. The others were to cross over if they had the right heart condition.

Today God is a reader of hearts. He knows who loves him and is willing to serve him whole-souled.

There were a lot of people with the Israelites that were a vast mixed company.

true. mosah took them from the egyptians. remember he was educated in egypt. The chrystian religion and pretty much all religion come from overf 4,000 years of egyptian religion/history. The egyptyians had somewhere about 300 commandments. Moses toook them and basically put them into ten. He literraly stole someone elses' work. the egyptians even talked about the coming of the christ long before the bible. There's a lot of myth in the bible and if we even dare to say something about it we are sinners. for example. there is no way in hell that anyone is going to fit 2 of every animal in a boat three stories high, as big as a football field...impossible. for one there is not enough water in the oceans, in the rocks, and atmosphere to flood the world. The only place all the water would of come from is a comet the size of brazil, but the impact would of killed every living soul. lets say that it didn't kill every soul. there would be so much water in the atmosphere that we would literally drown from breathin.

Religion is a falsehood of mankind to get rich of the poor... welcome to the system. do not get me wrong. there is a god and there is a devil. god is good and there is a hell. you do not want to go to hell.

Straight from the hand of God. Do yourself a favor and watch the DVD The Signature of God by Grant R. Jeffrey, and maybe it will clear up some of the mist. You owe yourself at least that much. We are talking about the possible existance of a creator who we all may have to stand before and give an account of every single word we say and everything we do. Worth at least looking further into, wouldn't ya say?

If the Law were just those ten then maybe you could make this point. But the Law fills the last four books of Moses, It includes over 600 separate legalities that the People were to obey,, Jim

According to the bible, God wrote the ten commandments for Moses on the 2 pillars of stone.

The ten commandments simply came from man in order to control the flock, and back then religious insanity ruled by manipulating the people into believing in things that simply did not happen, Is there a single God no there is not because man is God and God is man, it is man that created all of this religious nonsense, it is man that murders rapes and cheats, It is man that condemns man, and out of all of this nowhere is a single God to be found, and man has lied to man since his creation, so IF there is a God then where in the hell has he been for the last million years or so.

Moses got them from God, who directed him to the top of the mountain. Everything in the Holy Bible is God's Word, and is true and faithful. The Egyptians who died are dead eternally, and their "book of the dead" helped them not in the least.

How about what the Bible says?

How absurd. We wouldn't even know about the ten commandments if not for the scriptures, but scholars won't accept what the scriptures say about how they were obtained!

Here are the verses for you:
Exodus 24:12-34:28

That should give you a clear answer.

The commandments of God were written on the heart of men when they were created - thus it is not suprising (in fact it is expected) to be found in other pagan cultures. On Mount Sinai these very commandments were given in writing with the finger of God on two tablets. To show 1) that they are from God and 2) that they are perpetual.
