Why Not? Muslims are part of this world, prayer rooms should be provided in schools & universities for Muslims to be able to pray on time. Also notice in many hotels all over the world, there are signs in the rooms showing the direction of the Holy City of Makkah for Muslims to know where to face when praying.

I don't think that they should be providing prayer rugs for the students. They can bring their own. They should be allowed to pray at the allotted time, as long as they don't disrupt other students. (That's why an alternate classroom is provided.) It is true that the Christian religion doesn't say you have to pray at certain times, and if it did, then Christian students would be allowed to. Nowhere does it say that Christian students CAN'T pray, the rules are that you can't have mandated or directed prayer. The Muslims are not mandating that everyone else pray according to their beliefs, and the prayer is not directed by the teachers. They are only being allowed to pray as their religion dictates, and any other religion with specific rules would be shown the same respect. With the exception of the school PROVIDING prayer rugs, there is no favor being shown to the Muslim students.

Yes i do. Christians do not have to pray at specific times of day if they did they should be allocated a room to do so, they don't so they aren't. Its quite simple. Tax dollars to pay for what? A few rugs? Because they are not building the rooms that's for sure, any room will do, and they can bring rugs from home. Whats the big deal? Why are christian students all of a sudden asking to do the same? Where they asking this 15 years ago and being denied? I don't think so. As a Muslim i am more than happy for any child of any faith to pray and worship in school hours if their faith requires it and it does not interfere with their school work. Why do Muslim children taking 5 minutes to pray and thank God bother you so much?
EDIT
SquirrelNow - Jehovah's witnesses, Christians, Muslims, Jews and Seventh- day Adventous are all tax payers too.

Muslims pray everyday 5 times a day...Christians pray once a week on Sunday,,,which is a day off from school...so whats your beef? Smokers get a 5 minute break where I work...since I dont smoke I dont get that break....should I protest or start smoking?
Your tax money is going towards killing Iraqi women and children...that doesnt seem to bother you nearly as much as children praying to God...geez!
Messiahking
Christians do have access to school...ever heard of Christmas parties...Holloween parties...holidays off for Christmans and Thanksgiving etc? Christians are all over the public school system...good grief!

This is the base of USA that every person has the freedom to practice its religion & Muslims have definite time period for specific prayers so it is a very good gesture from those schools.
It will also improve relations of USA with Muslims. This is good example of secularism.I support freedom of religions practice, not like in so called Islamic country Turkey where u have to take off ur scarf before entering into University. This is not secular but Anti-Islamic such laws are making Muslims as more violent.

i do not think that they should supply prayer rugs, and a room. they are capable fo making their prayers outside just like everyone else.
they could use the Auditorium, or Gym, if it is empty. but i would not build a room for them. most schools do have a room that is not used for most of the day. i would have no objection to them useing that room.
However the school is wrong, your religion does give a specific time that you must pray...the Sabbath day. which is Saturday, or Sunday depending on your tradition. and the entire country revolves around givving the vast majority of the population these 2 days off from school and work.
you get all of your major holidays off.
why is it that when we simply try to be fair to someone else, Chrisitans act like they deserve something extra?

Yes, because it is true. YOUR RELIGION DOES NOT REQUIRE PRAYER FROM YOU. Why do you need the space?
Why don't you just suggest a room that can be used by anyone but during Muslim prayer times Muslims get to use it. If you do this u will need to make sure there are no religious symbols on the walls.
Help! Had a great answer.

I agree with the school. It is not imperative to Christianity that certain times of the day prayers should be made. It IS imperative to the Islamic faith. That does not mean that the other students cannot pray though. How many christian kids would actually use that time for prayer and not for goofing off???

i seem at it this variety in case you decide directly to desire it would be ok and in case you do no longer then you definately do no longer ought to. What injury is there in permitting people who choose to desire the main suitable to achieve this? What ever exceeded off to solid previous formed admire? If it wasn't for our veterans you does not have any freedoms and there does not be an usa to savor. Freedom isn't unfastened it comes with a value and as long as you savor freedom on the cost of others then you definately ought to out of admire enlarge them the courtesy they deserve and enable them to desire in the event that they choose. i be attentive to it is prevalent to be anti-American and anti-God yet for crying out loud why no longer provide it a destroy for as quickly as and quit being so damn selfish approximately it? If the guy or lady in uniform had to desire then what injury is there in permitting them to achieve this? i'm hoping sometime each and every man or woman who takes with no attention the liberty and freedoms they have enjoyed and clearly taken with no attention come to realize what a huge mistake they have made. perhaps then it heavily isn't so hip to insist on 'Your Rights'.

I agree that crosses the line between separation of church and state, but it isn't inconsistent with how Christian and Jewish students are treated. My high school prepared separate diets for Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, and Jews -- all separate.
And at tax payers' expense.
