i recently had a porcelain crown placed on my back tooth. since i had it done i have had extreme sensitivity on it. i went back to the dentist several times (this has been over 3 months ongoing) and finally today he realized that some of my roots were exposed. he put a desensitizing liquid on it and told me we would have to do this every 2 weeks until it healed. do exposed roots really heal themselves? if so how does it work. the funny thing is i never had problems with this tooth before he put the cap on. now i cant even chew on that side of my mouth! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dentist exposed the tooth root when he ground the tooth down to prepare it for the crown. This is normal procedure. Yes, the exposed root could heal on its own.

In the meantime, you can use Sensodyne toothpaste and Ora Gel for pain relief.
