Anybody can do the Chicken Dance. You can't have a party without it, in my opinion. The Macarena, the Electric Slide, The Cotton-Eyed Joe, the Time Warp, Love Shack, Walk Like an Egyptian, all of those are great for getting people to dance, I've found. They're all pretty cheesy, but that's why people dance to them. Then of course, there's YMCA, Shout, and Jump On It, which are my personal favorites.

Stuff from musicals, like Grease and Hairspray and stuff like that are recognizable and easy to dance to as well.

If you want something a little less cheddar-y, though, try something by Frank Sinatra. Most everyone recognizes his voice and likes his songs. I would get up to dance for him, and I can't dance.

If you have a good Dj He or She will have some great idea's for you. Please what ever you do dont play the chicken dance ( unless your wedding party is full of children) do you really want to see grandma shake her but or try the YMCA. Poeple look and feel Horrible if asked to do these silly dances. If you have trust in your Dj which you should they will keep the party going!! Hope I helped! Best wishes!!

line dances are not guaranteed- if people don't like to dance they are not going to do stupid organized dances. my suggestion is go for upbeat CLASSICS.. songs that will have a good beat to dance to, but songs that have been around forever that everyone knows the words too *an essential to dancing is also singing along with the song - you get into it more. my favorite: the dance version of sweet caroline (neil diamonds song), turn the beat around, i will survive, play that funky music.. check out my wedding band they are called the fuzzpops *you can google them they have an awesome song list, and kept my extended dance floor filled all night.

Everybody loves the oldies, like the YMCA etc...
Also, old school songs like, Tootsie Roll, Whoomp There it Is get people off their seats too.

There is always the chicken dance which everybody enjoys as well.

If your family is of spanish culture, just play some good tejano songs, you'll never see the dance floor empty, especially cumbias!!

For the younger generation, play some booty dancin music, and if your looking to just please the older crowd and put the younger crowd to sleep, then go ahead with the country music.

At my friend's wedding, everyone got up for:

Hips Don't Lie - Shakira
(I've Had) The Time of My Life - Billy Medley & Jennifer Warnes
Summer Nights - John Travolta & Olivia Newton John
Baby Got Back

I really thing guest liked the songs that everyone knew.

Electric Slide obviously. Anything by James Brown, Shout of course, and basically anything funky that you like. Try to find something that both parties will enjoy and the alcohol will do the rest.

A good DJ should have a wide selection of music and should know what to play when, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. Here are a few sites that may help you find some songs!
