she is probably missing your mum, eventually she will eat.Try tempting her with something bit different, some cheese, prawns or tuna,I wouldnt take her to the vets, they will charge you a fortune & give the cat an injection it dosnt need!

Keep your eye on her but I wouldn't worry. Some cats can be really effected by changes in routine or the absence of their owner. I fed my mums cats whilst my parents were away last week and they hardly ate all week. They refused to come when I called them so I left the food out for them but when I came back the next day it was untouched. I went on Holiday recently and my friend looked after my cat - he hardly ate either and he had lost weight when we came home but he soon put it back on. Its likely the stress and disruption is putting her off her food. If she is one year old - is this the first time your parents have been away since they had her? that could also be a factor. As well as missing her owners, it could be that your parents other cat is eating her food. try feeding her seperately and keeping the other cat away.

Cats can get really stressed when their owner is away. It may be that the very thin cat has a condition, like a tooth ache or other so it's well worth asking the advice of the vets.

cats do get stressed when their owners go away. I have a cat and when I go away he gets depressed and when I come home he totally ignores me for about 2 days and then comes back to me and wants his cuddles. How long has your mum been away for? If it is only for a week or 2 then even if it is fretting it shouldn't lose loads of weight in such a short space of time so maybe it has another problem so it needs to be checked by a vet.

Hi there,
I am experiencing the same thing at the moment, but I say do not worry about it, the cat is probably just missing your mum, when they are ready to eat they will do so, just make sure that they have access to food and drink at all times. If they carry on and you see a dramatic weight loss then I would suggest consulting a vet,
Good luck
Amanda!

Some animals become very depressed while their owners are gone. They don't like being boarded or baby sat. I'm not sure how long your mother has been gone or intends to stay gone. I'd try feeding her a wet food. Sometimes foods like that are better tasting and easier for the pet to enjoy while their owner is gone. If that doesn't work I'd call the vet and ask their opinion.

Some probably will if they are really attatched to their owner. If you can see her ribs, then I would say Yes, take her to a vet. If not, then give her some more food when your feeding her.
Heh, when we went on vacation once, our grandparents fed our cats, and when we came back they were so fat they could not even jump up on the porch railings. They eventually lost all that extra weight though.

My cat doesn't eat much when i am on holiday, i think they miss their owners and are stressed, like humans, we don't eat a lot when we are stressed out. But if it is getting very think i would suggest taking her to the vet to have her checked out just in case.

sometimes cats do get stressed when there is new people around or in their territory. She may just be nervous that her mom is away. Try to make sure she is eating and drinking normally and if she seems to get even thinner then i would definately take her to the vet. Sometimes it ca be easily caused by intestinal parasites or some other disease. Good luck!

Out of our five, I always worry about the oldest one because he doesn't eat when we're away and he'll drop up to a pound of weight in two weeks, even with the house sitter there feeding everyone.
Some cats can do this, most won't. It can be a concern.
