Well i've been doing pushups lately, in sets of 15-20 ea and I've been starting to get pain right below my shoulder next to my armpit on both my right and left and i think they muscle knots. I usually don't stretch, so i think that's why i get them but i'm not sure.

Could anybody tell me about how long it will take for them to go away, and also if It would be ok to still do things such as pull\chin ups and pushups after stretching while i have them or if that would aggrivate it?

Thanks.

Sounds like you may be having issues with your lattisimus dorsi muscles or "lats". Doing push-ups and chin-ups require you to use these muscles alot. Until you get them conditioned, they will continue to be sore. Because they are sore, you can be sure that slowly you will build muscle there. Try limiting the number you do and take a day off inbetween.

Stretch.

Stand in a doorway. Place your forearms, with your elbows at shoulder height, onto the sides of a door frame (to where the door frame sides are pushing back on your elbows, expanding your chest). Lean forward slowly, expanding and stretching your chest muscles. Do not over stretch (you might experience a little pain, but it should be that good stretchy pain).

Another stretch for what you feel is to put one arm straight up over your head, bend your arm back at the elbow. Grab that elbow with your other hand, and stretch your bicep back, keeping the stretched upper arm pointing upward. Repeat with the other arm.

Depending on your age, the pain should go away in a couple to a few days. Refrain from doing more push ups for a while while it heals. When you start up again, do knee pushups to exercise the muscles, but not at full strength. This will help rid the muscles of the lactic acid that causes the ache in the first place.

When you're relatively pain free, go back to doing your exercises. But, I recommend stretching before, during, and after each session to prevent that soreness again.

It would be OK, but make sure you stretch out really well. It could be soreness from doing a new exercise.

They should go away in a few days, or if you have access to a hot tub, that works really well.
