I think its all crap personally, but my father-in-law has a PhD in Divinities and a Masters in Psychology. He's also a Methodist Minister.
However, he does say one very important thing. "The bible is just a book meant to teach morals. Taking it seriously, word for word, is stupid".

God is very important but some of us do not have the money, time, or ability to get a degree in theology.
Usually, you get a degree in something you plan to do for a career.
I decided to raise a family and then get into the computer field. But God is still the most important part of my life...even without a degree.

Hand raised.
BA - Biblical Studies; MA - Philosophy of Religion and Ethics; MDiv - Divinity.
God is glorified in any occupation that is honorable and where His people give testimony to Christ. One doesn't have to go to seminary (like I did) to be a very good Christian. To be an informed Christian though, one should be attending church where those who did study in depth may share what they know, and individuals do have thier Bibles which they ought to read "religiously."
I didn't plan to be a preacher when I first believed, but God had other plans for me, so here I am, ordained in three denominations and preaching every Sunday.
But there are those who believe but serve God in other ways. We can't all be church pastors, or where would be the church?

Sorry, but that's a stupid question. Religion is to help you live a good life, it's not supposed to BECOME your life. If everyone who believed in God became a priest or a preacher or whatever, there'd be nobody to build houses, grow food, and just generally keep civilization going. Isn't the flip side of your question, "Atheists, why don't you devote your entire lives to the debunking of the belief in God?"

Try reading 1 Corinthians chapter 12. All types of people are needed.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

I don't have a degree from a cemet...er..Seminary. But I do have a thirst for the truth. And from study of the Word of God and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, God reveals Himself to me. I also study about the ancient cultures among many other things. We that know the Truth are ministers of the Gospel.

That's ridiculous. Christians, and other faiths for that matter, believe that each person was created with uniques gifts and talent from God. Why then would it be an insult to God to use those gifts and, hopefully, better mankind? Just because God is important in one's life doesn't mean He's the only thing in one's life.

Every Christian should study, but not everyone is called to study theology in a seminary. I have three such degrees because this field is my specialty. That does not make me a better Christian in any way. A person's Christian life is measured by their holiness and love.

where did God say you must have a theology degree? last time I checked not everyone in seminary was a great scholar. most of what is taught in seminary is a joke to begin with. each denomination has its own seminary. why bother if they only teach what they want from their perspective?
i have a degree in history and i've studied all the world's major religions. not everyone is called to be a preacher.
your question or assumptions are highly illogical captain.

We don't need a degree to have faith. We study it all the time, every day. Just because you are religious doesn't mean you have to become a priest, there are many things we can do for our belief system.
