I have a townhouse size livingroom. It is in a large rectangle shape. The entire room is painted with a strong yellow.. a little darker than Big Bird. We have hard wood floors that are a medium-light wood color and dark brown leather furniture, tables and mica lamps. Which wall should have the accent color? The entertainment system is along one of the shorter walls and the other shorter wall has a big bay window. The two larger walls are pretty much exposed and contain large cut-out doorways.

You could do a glaze over the big bird yellow. Miller Paint carries some great glazes. I did a burgundy glaze over big bird yellow and it turned out kind of a tuscan orange. The old world look would meld nicely with your leather furniture, and lamps. I would do the whole room. Also, do one wall at a time to completion. As it dries there is a lot of variance, and different people have a heavier hand, so this is a "do it yourself" project, literally.

Hi

Have you thought of painting the entire room a more gentle yellow? Or maybe something even butterscotch or taupe? I imagine that a more gentle yellow with your dark leather furniture, wood floors and the other accessories would be gorgeous! Big Bird Yellow sounds a bit bright for such a large room.

My walls are yellow like sunflower off white stressed coffee tables what would be a good accent wall color. Hardwood floors not dark.

red, orange, or turquoise

Your accent wall should be the wall you want everyone to notice when they walk into the room. Do any of your walls have an architectural feature that you want noticed? If so, that should be your accent wall. Are your cut out doorways arched? If so you could use that as your accent wall. Do you have a piece of furniture that you want to stand out? Paint the wall it is on in your accent color.

But as I said earlier, it should be whatever wall you want people to notice.

Purple would look great against light yellow walls.

If you want high contrast, use a royal purple. Complimentary to the yellow.
If not, go with a green that has some moss-like color to it. This is more subtle.
