Hey Troop, you can find stress in almost any situation and yes, Basic can be very stressful at times. However it is not stressful all of the time. Remember at all times these three simple facts of basic training; 1. The Drill Sergeants and other instructors actually are there to help you pass basic training! 2. They cannot Kill you! 3. They cannot Eat you!
Will you cry? Perhaps, maybe late in the night when you find yourself missing your home and family. Try to listen and do everything your Drill Sergeant tell you to do. Forget everything you think you know about the Army and don't listen to the $#!+ house lawyers, they don't know anything more about the Army than you do.
Go to Chapel and visit with Chaplin Charlie very chance you get, even if you don't believe because it's the only free milk and cookies you be offered during Basic Training. Remember that each day that passes bring you one day closer to the end of Basic. The only acceptable answer to any question posed to you will most likely be "No excuse, Drill Sergeant (or Sir)." Keep your nose clean, pay attention and do the very best you can in all things and who knows you might be the honor graduate of your training cycle.
Basic Training is easy if you keep your mind right....

When I went, a lot of people cried there, primarily in the first few days or during the first week. It is nothing to be ashamed of. For most of the new recruits, it is really the first time in their lives that they are out on their own and away from home for any length of time. They are in an environment that is alien to them and that they have just entered into a lifestyle that is unlike anything they have gone through before. It is not at all a sign of weakness or immaturity on your part and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is just an adjustment.
I will tell you now that you should really not cry in public there in front of anyone, but when those lights go out in the barracks for the first time, you can hear the low muffled cry of Privates in the night. It is a phase and it will pass, I promise you. It is meant to be stressful and test your limits during those first few weeks, but you will adapt.
Often the ones who generally don't have a reaction to it are those who are older or have been on their own for a while. The more independent ones you could say. But most of the rest do show or at least feel some semblance of similar feelings. Some are just better at hiding it than others, but believe me, you are not alone.

Some do. I don't know about females, but I actually saw a few guys in my platoon crack up. It happens to some people, though I don't think you're going to. While there, if you focus on your training, and what you need to do to succeed, and what to do to keep the drill sergeants off your butt, you will be too busy to be upset or miserable. That's what you want to do. Don't anticipate anything, just react to what they throw at you. Basic training, is what it sounds like: basic. It really (in retrospect) was simple. Although it didn't seem like it when I was there, there was never anything any of those drill sergeants told us to do, that anybody could do. You've already done the toughest part, you enlisted. Thank you for your patriotism, and your desire to serve your country! Good luck!

My friend told me that basic, for the Army at least, has gotten A LOT less tougher. The military is desperate for recruits and does not want to put potential soldiers off by the yelling Drill Instructors and emotional stress of boot camp. I don't know myself if this is true, but I have no reason to doubt him. So it may be easier than you're expecting. I'll be enlisting in about 11 months, so I'll find out myself fairly soon.

Both males and females cry- few like to admit it but they do. My drill sgt friends told me about how the males were always at their doors every nite crying and the next morning denying it and trying to be tough in front of their fellow male soldiers and the females. They told me the females actually cried less than the males. What does it matter as long as you make it thru Basic

it depends on your situation. I cried only once during Basic training..(start calling it that from now on, you will get dropped if you call it boot camp) After in processing we where shipped to our training site, and the Drill Sargent's let us have it. Off the bus, screaming and yelling, MOVE MOVE MOVE! Then we get in formation and they yell some more. Then we had to take all of our bags up 3 flight of stairs...then back down. Then back up. ( I suggest you pack light) Finally we had to empty our bags all out on the floor, then repack..etc. etc. In this process, I lost my cap. (hat) (there where like 40 of us all together) So the Drill Sargent really let into me because I couldn't find it. (turned out somebody accidentally packed it) So I shed some tears while doing push ups. It was the first and only time. I would seriously try to think of Basic Training as a game...you finish and you win a million dollars at the end. LOL Take it seriously, just not THAT seriously.

If they do then its probably at night when no one can hear or see them. Dont fret so much, i had a Corpsmen cut my upper leg with some sort of razor to get an abscess out i didn't cry ( i was biting a stick which i broke). The drill instructor (or Sgts) are made to brake you but you will get used to the yelling and will understand that its a form of motivation. This comes from a female who was not an awesome recruit.

basic has gotten soft from what I heard, I was there in 03, and did we get our a(s)ses smoked out in lovely Ft. KNOX, Ky. As for where you are gonna go, either relaxin jackson or ft lost in the woods, it'll be a cake walk. basic there is pretty wimpy from what everyone that has been there says.

I promise you, they'll keep you so busy you won't find the time to cry (except in the gas chamber). You'll be up before dawn and you won't hit the rack until late into the evening. You'll be sleeping within 2 minutes of laying down. One day you'll wake up and it will be graduation day.

firstly if your impression of boot camp is constant yelling and cussing in your face then you been watching too many movies. and boot camp has changed alot over the years. yea they do yell at you sometimes but dont take it in a hurtful way. take it as a way to shot the instructor that you can do more then he thinks and then show him/her
the women Drill Sergent's scare me way more then the men
