You call the agent. IF you've got a great payment history, you might be able to delay 5-10 days, and go into cancellation status and pay at the last minute, before the policy cancels.

NO ONE is going to lend you the payment - which is what they would have to do, if you need more time than the cancellation date, or if you're already in cancellation status.

state farm's alternative payment plans are very well laid out when you get a bill from them. the total amount due, if it is for more than one month, can be split into smaller allotments for a very small fee.

however, most state laws prohibit them from accepting less than the amount due for some minimum time period. In Florida (where I am) that period is one month.

If you do not pay in Florida, your insurance coverage will cease when your bill is 28 days overdue.

Your state may have a different period. Ask your agent.

Yes, call your agent. They can give you one extension per year for hardship reasons. Don't use the word hardship, just say I need an extension and tell them exactly when you can pay it or how much you can put towards it in good faith right now.

You should contact your insurance agent directly. Sometimes an agent won't let you go a whole month without paying your premium. I had a situation where I needed my premium date changed (I have automatic bank drafts set up every month). I called them and they handled it, no problemo.

Some companies have a 30 day grace period before they cancel. It's best to call them and ask.

If you charge it to a credit card that doesn't have a balance you have a month or so to pay it or ask your agent if you can pay monthly instead of semiannually or annually.
