if he only has his permit, then he doesnt need to be listed on your policy until he's actually licensed -- in the meantime he's automatically covered. if he's going to buy his own car and put it in his name, then he needs his own policy. otherwise if he will be driving one of your cars he'll have to go on your policy. it is much cheaper f/ him to be on your insurance, although it's really not cheap at all to insure a newly licensed driver.

Add him to your policy. The insurance company will ask how old he is and whether he has his license yet. If he doesn't have a license, he will need a permit and a licensed driver over the age of 18 in the car with him while learning. They will then assign a quote based on that info.
But, yes he does need insurance. If he goes out and kills someone, the registered owner of the car is liable for the damages. If he's in your car, that would be you.

Many companies will not issue a policy to anyone under 18. The age of legal responsibility. They end up on the parents policy.

Call your insurance agent and ask for quotes
Compare premiums of having his own policy or he is under your policy. In most cases, it is cheaper that he is with your policy.

Depending on how good and responsible a driver he is putting him on your insurance could cost your rates to go up in the future or right away because he is a new driver. It is cheaper for him though to be on your insurance..If he wants it that way he is showing he,s being responsible. You must be proud of him.Whatever you decide best of everything to both of you.

It doesn't really matter if you put him on your policy or if he gets his own; either way, it's going to be expensive! If he is going to drive your car, I'd put him on your policy; that way you're covered. If he buys his own car, just let him get his own policy. Good luck!

Insurance goes on cars, not on people. If he owns a car he would need insurance. If he drives your vehicle your insurance will cover him but you need to name him on your policy.
