I know the person above had good luck with the “piggy bank” game. However, when my cousin was little, he was squealing, “I’m a piggy! I’m a piggy!” Took a few minutes to realize that he was eating money like a piggy bank.

Your daughter is completely normal and all you can do is keep an eagle eye out for that stuff. As she gets older, she will understand, “No mouth” for inappropriate items, but at this point it’s just a phase and you can’t really trust anything but a sharp eye and keeping small objects up off the floor.

Having other things around to help with teething, etc., is a good idea but really won't curb her urge to "taste" everything she comes across.

ps: cat food won’t hurt her :-)

All children her age stick things in their mouths. It's how they feel things. Babies use their mouths instead of their hands. My best advise is not to leave things like cat food and pennies where she can get to them and stick them in her mouth. You won't be able to teach her not to do that until she gets a little bit older. My son is 15 months and he is already slowing down a lot. When he sticks certain things in his mouth such as the telephone, I show him how he is really suppose to use it by helping him press buttons and sticking it up to his ear. Things like pennies and catfood should never be within your child's reach. You should buy child safety cabinet locks and gates to keep her out of things she shouldn't be getting into. Good luck and have fun with your little girl, they are so fun at that age.

You just have to make sure that there is absolutely nothing within her reach. My wife and I are constantly picking things up the floor, even my older son's toys. He doesn't understand, but it's for the little one's sake. Everything's a choking hazard.

Look around and do a quick sweep tonight. And always watch her, or get a playpen when you can't!

Hope this helps!

My 16 month old likes to put things in her mouth also. I just watch her very very closely. They grow out of this stage, but until then you will just have to keep a very close eye on her.

Babies are going to put things in their mouth..its like thats their way of nature or something. The best thing to do is to keep an eye on her to make sure she isnt putting anything in her mouth. In the case that she does, calmly take it out of her mouth and firmly tell her no...you could also smack her hand or lightly pop her mouth if you believe in doing that.

Get her a chewy teething ring, a binky thingie or something she CAN put in her mouth, that way she can get rid of the urge and be safe.

I started a game with my little girl. Money went in the piggy bank. I let her put it in there she liked finding things and putting it in the hole. So I just made a big deal about feeding the pig... :0)
