Wiccans and witches... I understand that Wiccans have a code of ethics whereby doing harm or interfering with another person's will is considered wrong. This, to me, would then greatly reduce the number of spells that an ethical witch could perform.
I was very stressed out the other day (feeling better now, because I'm taking herbs and vitamins) and I was wondering if a Wiccan could perform a spell on me to stop my heart and mind racing with stress.
It is usual for a Wiccan to do spells to change him/herself, rather than other people?
If you feel so inclined, would you please share an experience when you have done a spell on yourself, to improve yourself or some inanimate aspect of your environment?

Thanks Nandina. My husband is a crystal therapist and I'm a homoeopath... I am thinking, perhaps spells could be applied in an alternative health setting, when informed consent was given. I would like to research this further....

Thanks Keltasia. I've just got to find the time for it... Hmmm, maybe should get off YA and do some Zen meditation of a morning, instead of computing, lol! But thanks for the suggestion. At my baby's daycare they have this really peaceful music in their sleeping room. It was SOOOOO nice and relaxing. I wish I had an mp3 player so I could just listen to it all day!
Love and Peace! :-)

Nightwind... That's okay, I wasn't really looking for someone to do a spell on me. I was just wondering what some "magic" (or energy) practitioners might have used their magic for in personal applications. Good answer, thank you! xo

most 'spells' are usually in relation to one's self.
some people think a spell implies sitting over a bubbling cauldron stirring frogs and eyeballs together and creating a curse! lol.
but as you are aware, it is nothing to do with that brothers grimm image!
spells can be meditations, prayers, blessings etc, and can be used very effectively within a healing session.
i use it in healing if another requires it, and as i work with essential oils i am in direct contact with the person and feel connected to them.
i have used a spell to ask for strength to deal with a difficult issue or aspect of my life, often by setting aside a 'quiet' time, playing relevant music, or sitting in silence, depending what the occasion calls for, and burning candles and incense, sometimes holding crystals or a picture/photograph if it feels helpful to do so; or sometimes i write - a poem, some random thoughts, a long piece - the right words then flow and are very useful in my spell work, either immediately or at a later time.
a lovely question, thank you!
blessed be

You are correct that avoiding spells that affect free will will vastly limit the number of possibilities.
Spellwork and energywork is very frequently done on oneself. One, you don't ahve to worry about permission (many consider it rude to cast on someone else's behalf without their permission). Two, distance weakens a spell, and no one is closer to you than you.. Three, emotional investment strengthens a spell, and you're likely to be much more concerned about your self or a loved one than an aquaintance or stranger.
I would never perform something for a stranger who asked for a working over the internet. One, I believe that chances of it working are very, very slim and do not want to encourage people to think otherwise. Second, I don't want to be karmically linked to a total stranger. (I don't know your situation...for all I know the stress is in response to something you should really be paying attention to...I just don't know because I'm not there)
All of my work relates to me: constructively directing stress, strengthening perception, trying to temper my negative habits and improve my good ones, etc. It's very boring, really.
Sometimes you just have to learn to let go of the stress, but often the better approach, I think, is to identify where the stress is coming from and deal with the cause instead of the symptom. For instance, if I was stressed about an obnoxious co-worker, I would work on having more patience with her or perhaps a better ability to tune her out. I don't have to change her - I can just change how I deal with her.

Most Wiccans will direct their spellwork towards themselves, and as long as the spell doesn't have a harmful intent, it's generally accepted as not a problem. Self-confidence, self-esteem, learning to trust in a relationship, etc. Self-improvement spells aren't a problem.
They're really not even a problem when performing them on someone else, as long as you have that person's knowledge and consent (there are some exceptions, but it depends on the spell, how it's worded, its intent, etc.).

Most spells are done for ourselves and that's what I would recommend. The only time I do something for anyone else it is with their knowledge and consent and they usually involve healing. I would suggest you try meditation. If you aren't familiar with it, try getting a guided meditation CD. Example: Kathleen Swann's Seasons of Serenity works well.

Sure. Either way, they'll only work, at best, as a placebo.
Magic spells are just superstition.
