Well ..

If you were shot accidentally, there is usually some med-pay coverage on a HO policy to cover incidental injuries; the homeowner will need to file a claim. If injuries were bigger than med-pay you'll have to file a lawsuit in court for damages.

If he shot you on purpose, this would be an illegal or at least intentional act; there is no coverage for either on a homeowners policy. You'll have to sue and get HIS money (if he has any).

Good luck

You were SHOT, you mean?

To sue someone, you have to file court papers. If you're suing for an amount under the limit of small claims court, it's cheapest to sue there. Otherwise, you have to hire a laywer, to sue in civil court, and it could end up costing you a lot of money up front.

Consult a lawyer.

In case you're wondering, you CANNOT file a claim directly against the homeowners insurance policy.

If you know you were a tresspasser eg signs or you were told before not to go there you may not be able to.
You will probably need to go to small claims court and / or contact the police.

You'd have more luck suing the shooter.
