the bible says nothing about being "legally married" it just states being married in the eyes of the LORD. Can a couple go forth to the Lord themselves and consider themselves married in the eyes of the Lord, or do they have to legally do it? I know this is a weird question but me and fiance don't live together, and can't financially afford to do so as a traditional husband and wife, but we love each other very much, and are committed to one another.

You can be married in the eyes of God, many people are living their lives what I like to call in legal fornication those are the ones who get married without the approval of God and if you do and you are a Christian it will fail. You will know God judges your heart in light of our actions

Yes, it seems that your mom is trying to justify your relationship because you two have been having sex. "God does not approve of gay marriage...ever" Well then, I guess God doesn't approve of interracial marriage either (Deuteronomy 7:3-4 and Exodus 34:10-16). Interracial marriage was outlawed until Loving v. Virginia in 1967. But guess what? We're not a theocracy nor is the US a Christian nation (see Treaty of Tripoli). We're a secular nation. Soon, the right to marry the same sex will come in time. The zeitgest moves forward. Oh and God also does not accept people wearing mixed fiber clothing (Leviticus 19:19). Way to pick and chose. @ Architect: So you're calling same-sex couples who want to to be married an live together for the rest of their lives insane? @ the l: By law, same sex marriage is NOT abuse. Get your penal code right.

It would mean to have made a public profession of your commitment to each other as well as being obedient to the laws of the land if they require an official ceremony/recording whatever.

Romans 13:1
[ Submission to the Authorities ] Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Don't listen to the naysayers. If you commit two each other before god and some witnesses and then live as husband and wife, you are married in god's eyes. Paperwork is for control and taxes.

I think love is bigger than anything and everything on this whole universe. If you love your friend, then forget the rest of the drama and live happily knowing that you have the thing that God wants in your heart.

Genesis 2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

That is what God called for.

It means to have your relationship approved by your church leaders.

It's yet another way that religion tries to control your life.
