Have you ever heard of this thing called common sense?
Hey, if you poke a hornet's nest with a big stick, you MIGHT not get stung.
Why would you intentionally provoke a person who has the ability to make your life miserable? Yeah, I know all about your rights. But when you're pulled over in the middle of nowhere on a dark road and it's just you & him, do you think every cop in America gives a damn about your rights?
PS - if he wanted, the cop could say he had probable cause to search your vehicle if you're listening to music that is violent or has drug references. Yeah, it'd probably be a violation of your rights. But if he found something, what do you think would happen?

The issue is not the music but respect for the badge. You show respect by turning off the music, removing your sun glasses, looking at the officer and allowing the officer to speak first. These things also improve your chances of getting off with a warning.

Personally, when I get pulled over I turn off the music before the cop gets to the door.

He would probably ask you to turn the music down so you can hear what he has to tell you about why he stopped you. Of course, if the reason for the stop was for Loud Music (a charge in Illinois) he will probably tell you about it as he is writing the ticket.

Simple, do like your supposed to, turn off the car and put the keys on the dash. This makes you safe and the officer safe because he sees you not as a threat to drive off.

freedom of speech- yeah, right.
you have NOT made his day just by making him stop you...
listen to him, be polite.
turn it down.
this does not mean that you become an a$$kisser- just polite.
