As far as I know euthanasia has never legally been conducted based on mental health problems alone. In countries where euthanasia is legal there should be long lasting 'unbearable pain' , no alternatives, no chance of improvement in the future, and able to decide.

The reason why mental health doesn't fall under this is that one of the criteria is that the person is able to make the decision.

Long-standing, treatment-resistant mental health problems sounds like something that translates into mental incompetence to manage one's own affairs, including consenting to medical treatment, which in turn suggests legal incapacity even to consent to assisted suicide, much less consenting to euthanasia, which doesn't presuppose any need for consent.

At some point assisted suicide can morph into euthanasia if the element of participation and consent by the patient is removed from the equation. The only places I can imagine, but would never suggest, that might permit euthanasia under such circumstances are those, such as The Netherlands, that take a relaxed attitude towards assisted suicide.

Death is permanent. TRD is so bad that sometimes we cannot see past the moment at hand. But there is something to do right at this moment. Donot let someone tell you it is going to be okay. Just snap out of it because it is not true. Please call your doctor, he/she will not make you wait to take the call, call a friend even if you donot feel like talking, call a crisis hotline, if you donot know the number have her to dial it direct for you, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. You need help right now or you would not have asked this question. Right now whether you agree with me or not you need to be in a situation that first you will be safe. Then you will be able to deal better, I have TRD and I know by your question it doesnot help for people to say you will be okay just ride it out or just snap out of it and even think positive, that doesnot help right now. Whether you believe me or even consider this for yourself you need to seek professional help and not depend on death as the answer. A safe environment at this time may be the best alternative that you could consider.

Euthanasia was made legal in Holland (Nederlands) on 1 April 2002. There are, however, strict guidelines that a doctor who assists a suicide must follow.

Take a look at the page below for a fuller explanation.

Do bear in mind, though, that if you're considering this option for yourself, it leaves a whole lot of anxiety and turmoil after you're gone.

Are you sure you want to do this? Have you thought of all the ramifications of your actions if you choose to do this? The only place that I know is Holland. You can go on line and look up euthanasia and find info there as well........google it. As I type this I feel as if you are in alot of mental pain. More than you can deal with.........I understand your question. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Without knowing what mental health problem a person has, trying to answer this question is not very smart. Assisted suicide is illegal almost everywhere, & is almost always reserved for terminal PHYSICAL illnesses. There is a reason for this. Remember what the Nazis did to mentally ill people? What you are asking about is repugnant for many reasons.
