I would NEVER leave a dog outside 24/7 no matter what the weather was like. Anyone that does that doesn't even deserve to have a dog!!
Put yourself in his paws. What kind of life does the poor dog have!!!

I have a friend who had a boyfriend like this, and she was very upset for the dog. Soooo, she put an a/c unit in the garage, a sofa and a tv. They made that the den and the dog could come in there with them for the hottest part of the day. I think the dog still had to go outside when no one was home, because he just would pee on everything, and they were not going to work on house training. This is a great option, and you still have to make sure that you spend some time with the dog. Dogs are pack animals, so she needs to feel like one of the packs.

See if you guys can come to some comprimise. Like is there a room you can block off that she can come hang out with you guys during the hottest times.

Remember, though, don't feed her ice... it can cause the stomache to cramp if she is hot. Also, the best way to cool her if she becomes distressed over heat, is to use cool towels on the inner thigh. Does she have a kiddie pool to wade in? Change the water often because of mosquitos, but 3 or 4 inches of water to walk in or lay in is great on hot days.

And, if you do start bringing her in, don't pump the ac up too high for her. If she is in the cool house and suddenly goes outside, it can be a little overwhelming. Keep an eye on her when she goes back out for a half hour or so to make sure she is ok.

Best of luck.

Does he have a dog house where he can go and chill out? Well, keeping a dog outside 24-7 is okay for some, but it sounds like its too hot for him. Does he pant a lot? Does he froth at the mouth? These are signs of dehydration. If you feel bad enough, you should mention it to your boyfriend. Keeping your dog outside in the heat is not a good idea. If he insists, make sure he has enough water for the heat. Good luck!

It is not inhuman to leave an animal outside 24-7. However it is inhuman to leave them outside with out protecting them from the elements. If it gets really hot where you live, make sure you have a cool, shaded place for the dog with plenty of cool water. Growing up, I had an outdoor dog who would not drink warm water. The last thing you want to happen is to have him get dehydrated in the heat.

With that said, I would not leave my dog outside 24-7.

Outside dogs do not have happy lives, they get less vet care, less attention, less training and a boring life full of digging holes and barking. Dogs need to be inside to have a quality life and esp in the heat need cool water and shade. Many outside dogs die from heatstroke. Outside dogs are usually not considered adoptable in a shelter and are put to sleep. Outside dogs often develop health problems because no one notices until too late. They are often thunder shy from being out in a storm. A guy I knew had 2 Rotties that had an acres run complete with 2 stall empty barn for shelter. They were both neutered and UTD but the male died because the owner never notcied the male lost 20lbs in a month and by the time he did the dog was too far gone to save. If the dog lived inside he would have seen the dog's pitiful state and the dog could have been saved, so he died needlessly and in pain for over a month.

There are definately different opinions on the subject. I know people who believe dogs should not be allowed in the house. Personally, I do not agree with keeping a dog outside all the time. Dogs can not regulate their body temperatures easily. Dogs can die from excessive heat.

Try using some of your feminine charms to convince your boyfriend to bring the dog in-it may just work. If he insists keeping the dog outside be sure it has a shaded place to lie and lots of water.

Ask your boyfriend if HE would like to stay outside an d sit or lie on the ground 24/7 in 105 temp which feels more like 112 I'm sure he will say that he wouldn't mind :) My two larger dogs stay outside bu tionly up to temps around 90.. if it starts getting hotter than that they stay inside and only go out to play when it cools back down in the evening :) ( other than to potty that is)! A Vet will tell you äs long as they have shade & fresh water, but I just think it's inhumane. Good luck adn I hope he let's them in soon!

It's okay for a dog to be outside, as long as it has access to shade and water. I guess these people on here think that dogs didn't exist before air conditioning. Dogs survived in the heat long before people started bringing them inside. But if it is a working dog, don't work it to much during the heat of the day.

I know exactly how hot Alabama is, I have friends there. Maybe you can talk him into letting her stay inside during the hottest part of the day. If he says no, is there shade for her ? Always supply her with lots of water. A kiddie pool for her would be great, fill it up and let her enjoy lying in the water. My dogs are kept inside & only go out to potty when it's hot. Also any dog can suffer heat stroke. If its not reconized or treated immediately, heat stroke can cause brain damage, organ failure, seizures, and possibly death. The signs of heat stroke include increased pulse, increased body temp, panting, red to purple gums (a dogs gums are usually a healthly pink color),increased salivation, wobbly gait & weakness. If you notice heat stroke , you can wet your dog with water and cool the dog using air conditioning before & during the drive to see the vet. The dog should not be placed in a extremely cold bath water , this also the dogs temp to cool too fast & can result in serious damage or even death. Heat stroke is an emergency situation & a vet should be contacted immediately.

That is cruel. I hate to say this but even now the dog has severe behavoiral issues and ANIMAL ABUSE.
Yes keeping a dog outside 24/7 is animal abuse when it's hot cold and raining. Either let the dog inside and try to train it because it will be a terror in the house or call your local ASPCA.
Maybe you or your boyfriend don't know this but this dogs life is hell.
Please save this dog!
