I'm an atheist and I'm suspicious of everyone

2007-08-14 08:12:10 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

The atheists who I have encounter like to argue against God and religion and provide science as an alternative. I appreciate science and what advantages critical thinking can provide. I also know the drawbacks of such a critical world view. What I have noticed is that atheists mostly only point out the negative aspects of religion and make little or no note of what positive influence it has on society. They also redefine concepts like faith, hope, love and God in a negative light and make broadly sweeping generalized statements which I personally find insulting. I will be suspicious of atheists whenever they do such, not because of my religion or what I was taught but because such tactics are dishonest. I am not in the least bit afraid of either atheists or their arguments. I welcome and even enjoy them.

Hey there!

I am a non-denominational Christian and no, our church does not teach any fear/suspicion/etc, only to do our best to love everyone. In the Bible, the greatest command is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, your mind and with all your strength. And to love your neighbor". But, as we are all human, we all have our weaknesses. Some people judge because that's how they're brought up and most probably don't know they do it until after the fact.

No, it doesn't. That would just be ridiculous. Why should I fear someone just because he or she doesn't share my religious beliefs? There are many people who do not believe in any sort of deity, and it would be silly to go around being suspicious of them. Their unbelief does not threaten my belief in any way. I respect others and their right to believe (or disbelieve) whatever they choose. I have many friends who are atheists.

Uhhmmmm, no? My religion actually is atheistic. It teaches against blind faith though, and to question everything?

My faith teaches that everyone can believe as they see fit, and that we cannot be threatened by those who believe something else (no matter what that something else is), simply because everyone's beliefs are equally valid. "There is no one true way," is the creed of my religion.

Not at all. Unbelievers were stoned to death in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus said "Shake the dust from your feet and walk away from the unbelievers, for their day is near"

No. We are all children of God. And we all have the freedom to believe as we so choose. I simply live by the golden rule and treat everyone with respect.

As a Christian, Jesus was not afraid of anything & He and Almighty God do not want us to fear. The Holy Bible has 365 "Fear nots" throughout it. That is one for each day of the year.
As the Bible also says, "If Almighty God be for you, WHO then can successfully stand against you?"
