Maybe it's because you're looking at it with a cynical attitude. Instead of focusing on the fear of hell, why don't you look at it as Christians sincerely believe they can help you see the goodness of God with the promise of Heaven. Just a different point of view. Have a good day.
EDIT: I never said you weren't sincere. I'm saying that we believe there are one of two place everyone will end up: Heaven or hell. You're saying Christians are trying to scare you with the idea of hell. I'm saying Christians are trying to encourage you with the wonderful gift of heaven. (Kind of like the glass is half full (heaven) or half empty (hell). Hope this helps. And I'm sorry, I've never heard of Ammut.

Hey there! I am a Christian, and I do not believe in that "fear striking" business. I believe Jesus would prefer that a message of love be preached instead.
No offense against this Ammut guy, but I'll stick with Jesus.

Ever notice how fearful people can't stand for others to not be fearful. It freaks them out and makes them feel stupid. They don't want to believe they are the only ones who have the possibility of being so rotten they'll certainly go to hell. That would make you better than them! Now that's a sin!
Eaten or burned. Hmmmmmm, let's weigh the choices.

I know Ammut!...I think....He came to my house the other day as a big sand storm and I was like....wait! There aren't any deserts in WV!!!! and He was like "oh...I almost had you!" and I was like "....hehehehe....yes you did!"

They think that since they are afraid of a made up place so are we. Or the thought that someone believes something that does not fall in line with their religion scares them so they think we should be scared of their version of eternal punishment. Who really knows. They beleive they are trying to do us a favor attempting to "save our souls". Their heart is in the right place but it can be annoying. That's the best I can come up with anyway. Seriously though, hell was used to keep believers in line back in the day. It worked so it stuck even though it is not quite the right idea.
They used fear whereas Jesus used love.
