This is so the people that have been deceived and are rejoicing will be humbled and know the power of God Almighty when they awaken from the little sleep and ascend.
Note this answer is given in verses 11 & 12.
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

These 2 Prophets for Isreal will be given 3 1/2 yrs or 1260 days to prophecy against Isreal for signing peace treay After their alotted time, The anti-christ will have them killed because their time frame is up, Then sets in the great tribulation, But while these 2 Prophets will lay in the sreets for 3 1/2 days, the whole word will see them, & little does the world also not know is that the wholeworld will also see God bring life backtothem & God will say unto them, come up hither, Then you hav 3 1/2 yrs or 1260 days also alotted unto the anti-christ, But after his time is up you see in Rev 19:11-14 Jesus Christ & his beide coming back, to rule & rign for 1000 yrs on this earth The anti -Christ with satan & all wicked will be bound for 1000 yrs. Once God uses a prophet &That prophet wil have finished his ministry then God takes his Prophet off the scene so that other prophecies can be fulfilled. These 2 Prophets for Israel will have the same annointing on them that Moses & Elijah, No they are not literally those 2 prophets But they have that Holy Ghost annointing on them, & these 2 Prophets is for Israel & not the Gentiles or us.

God has permitted *many* of his servants be killed in rather unpleasant ways. Jesus (crucified), James (run through with a sword), Peter (crucified upside-down). All of his faithful servants will still attain eternal life.
To ask *why* God does the things that he does is pretty much of a reach. What I mean is, God is the being who created the entire universe just by speaking. His intelligence is *far* above ours. There are, of course, some actions of God for which we can comprehend the reason (at least in part), but there are likely many that are simply beyond our comprehension. It is unlikely that we *could* comprehend all of His reasons for permitting such a thing. Certainly, none of us *knows* the reasons for it. At best, we can guess - but it would be nothing more than sheer speculation. We faithful have to trust that everything God does is for good. The whole of the good that results from any particular event is likely something only God *can* know.

All of Revelation is symbolic and it means that they go into inactivity or virtually stop which is what they have done in some countries. Then they come back to life and start preacing. So since no one has come back to life and started preacing we know it is a symbol of something or some class of people.
Matthew 24; 13,4 says that this class of people will be preaching during the time of the end.
Once this good news has been preached then the end will come. Kind of coresponding with that scripture.
For many years the true knowledge of the bible was hidden from most people. Or dead to the world.

Most of Revelations took place at the time that Nero was persecuting the Christians in Rome. It was written in time of major crisis for the Church, also called resistance literature.
But can be timely for any age.
"No matter what adversity or sacrifice Chrisitans may endure, they will in the end triumph over Satan and his forces because of their fidelity to Christ the victor. It is an enduring message of the book; hope, consolation and a challenge for all who dare to believe".

Perhaps so that he can bring them back to life in Rev. 11:11 and "strike terror" into those that see them and then bring them up to heaven while their enemies watch? Seems like that would stop at least some of those who claim God never gives us physical signs of his existence.

Many times have God's servants been called upon to seal their testimony with their blood.
And the blood of the saints shall cry from the ground against them.
and the time soon cometh that he avengeth the blood of the saints upon you, for he will not suffer their cries any longer.

There are many prophecies that indicate that God's wrath is ultimately provoked by the killing of his sons during the tribulation. In fact that's what the 11th chapter of Revelation is all about.
