The only way to get rid of lice is through combing with a special nit comb and conditioner. The conditioner immobilises the lice, while the comb pulls them out. You need to get a good plastic comb specially for the purpose which is flat on one side.
After washing with shampoo, add plenty of conditioner and leave it on. Comb with an ordinary comb to get rid of tangles, then systematically, starting at the nape of the neck, comb each section of hair with the nit comb. After each stroke, wipe the comb on tissue, or rinse it under the tap. The lice should be clearly visible on the comb.
Keep doing this until the entire head has been combed, and no more lice are being found.
3 days later, repeat the entire process again. This is to allow any newly hatched lice from eggs missed to hatch and be combed out before they can grow and reproduce. Then, 3 days later do it again. After 14 days of this, you should be lice free. After the 2nd session, you should be free enough of lice not to be transmitting any, because any full grown lice will have been removed, and it is these which spread from head to head.
Make sure you do this routine once a week after this to ensure your daughter doesn't get any more.
Trust me, the pesticide treatments DON'T WORK!! Lice are resistant to them. You will not kill all the lice through using these. Comb and conditioner is safer, less messy and very effective if done properly.
Wash all your daughter's bedding after the first treatment.
Depending on where you are, look up the Bug Buster Kit. This has different combs for lice and nits, with instructions. But a good quality plastic nit comb should do the trick (not metal - these are less effective).
Good luck.

Use a nit comb and plenty of normal hair conditioner. Comb the live lice out and rinse the hair. Then re-apply a good coating of conditioner and tie the hair up or comb back and leave in overnight. In the morning, rinse the hair and comb through again. Wash all bedding and continue to comb hair through at least 3 times a day for the next week. inform her school too. You can buy all the treatments in the world, but they won't kill the eggs! The only way is combing the hair! Good luck!

My sister got lice from sharing batting helmets during a softball game, and the lice shampoo's just didn't work for her.
What finally worked for her was buying a jar of mayonnaise, smearing it all over her head, and putting a tight-fitting shower cap over that. We left it on for a few hours (she watched a movie to take her mind off of it), and then we washed her hair 3 times, and went through it with the lice comb. They haven't come back since.
The mayonnaise smothers them, and it makes them and the eggs come off of the hair strand easier. The eggs are the real problem, because the shampoos kill the live lice, but then the eggs hatch, and she's got it all over again.
I've also heard of people using olive oil in the same way.
A nurse suggested to my mom to use coconut scented shampoo from now on, as there's something about it that the lice don't like.

Get Lice X and get one of those Lice combs. The combs are a very important part of the process of eliminating the lice. If she has long hair, consider a haircut, it will help your chances of eliminating the problem.
Good luck

There are lice shampoos. Also wash everything and get lice spray for the house. It should be gone in about a week or less.

Buy a jar of real mayonnase, mix with a few teaspoon of white vinegar, and 100% tea tree oil.
Section the hair to ensure proper application to the scalp. After applying to the scalp saturate throughout the hair, making sure each strand of hair is coated with the mixture. Let it set. Rinse out. The mayonnase is a paste to cover the eggs, the vinegar is to loosen, and the 100 tea tree astrigent is to kill the eggs. Rinse, and repeat in 7 days.
Or, you may use coaltar shampoo. If I am spelling it correctly. Coaltar is a dark color medicated shampoo. Let it set. for a while. Shampoo. Repeat in seven days.
Be sure to use a rat tail come, (come with a long slim handle). Be sure to apply the solutions heavly to the scalp, and comb through the hair before shampoo.
Both applications will have a foil smell, don't worry it is all good.
Good look
You may use the store brand mayonnase

The best you can do is get hair treatment it's called RID I think. I've had lice before twice...it's the worst thing someone can experience. The only complimenting thing is they go to people that have clean heads. So atleast you know your giving her good health. Depending how long her hair is you may need more than one bottle...it's very painstaking because after awhile your neck starts to hurt from leaning over while your getting your hair washed. It' comes with a comb that you brush with that is very small and breakable so be cafeful. Any stuffed animals or bedding needs to be washed in HOT water to kill any alive ones...Lice are like fleas and if you don't kill them all they multiply again. Don't share hairbrushes and make sure she brushes her hair over the tub or a garbage so they don't fall on the floor. Good luck that is the best you can do I did it and used like 4 bottles just to make sure they are all gone get lots of lice combs because that is what you should be combing her hair with it pulls out the lice and some nits (lice eggs). You can see the eggs on the strands of hair if you uses the comb it should pull them off but you may need to do it manully. To see if the egg is alive you should be able to see white inside it if not it will be clear and empty. you can kill lice and nits but popping them with the back of your nail...if they pop then they die. I know it's gross but thats just how it works because the eggs can still hatch even if they aren't on your head. That's why you wash stuffed animals and bedding.

Do not use a medicated lice shampoo! They do not work and you actually have to pick out all the nits which is painful.
Instead use Tea Tree oil which is natural, non-toxic and gentle to the scalp. You may have to do a few treatments but I promise you this works!
