How much will it pay off to do some of the work on our home when building. We are thinking of doing our own painting and trim work, etc (we're very capable, have flipped many homes). The flip side is that we are sick to death of doing these things and wonder if it is worth letting our contractor do them.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Maybe you need a break. Get a good set of plans for your new home and have the contractor give you a bid. Specify that the bid have the cost of the trim work and painting (and anything else that you think you might do) identified separately. With those numbers available, you can identify how much you'd be saving by doing it yourself and thus make your mind up.

If it is just painting and trimwork and you are tired of it due to flipping homes then why not let the contractor do it? You really won't be saving that much money. If it were doing the drywall, electrical or plumbing then you would be saving quite a bid but otherwise in my opinion it wouldn't be worth it.

Figure out what your time is worth compared to what the contractor will charge. Could your time be better spent doing something else? We have done it both ways depending on the individual project.

You could always pay to have something done for you. But if you have more time than money it will come out better if you personally do work you are familiar with.
