no, being a fundamentalist is adhering to beliefs, no matter what evidence is found to go against them. We would throw evolution out the window if any convincing, well tested evidence was found to prove it false (btw, all the evidence supports it). a fundamentalist christian, muslim, etc. would never do that. Don't mistake passion for fundamentalism. We aren't fundamentalists and any atheist who tells you he is doesn't know the meaning of the word.

I do not see anything wrong in being a 'fundamentalist' atheist, other than it makes you a bit pushy.

The difference is that the 'fundamentalist' atheists would be happy to accept new evidence when it is provided.

The fundamentalists Christians have not yet accepted evidence that has stood for over a hundred years.

The term "fundamentalist" comes from a type of backwards Christianity that began in the early 20th century as a response to modern ideas like Darwinian evolution and liberalized Christianity. Now the term is used generically for any group of fanatical believers who blindly and aggressively support some kind of religion or ideology.

Being a religious fundamentalist means you are probably superstitious, unable to think for yourself, unable to make nuanced judgments, take orders from authorities like a robot -in short, there's nothing complimentary about it.

I'm not a fan of any kind of fundamentalism, atheist variety included.

I am not making fun, just stating a fact. A fundamentalist christian (I'm an ex-fundie) is an extremist. You can't see it until you step out of it and look at the big picture.

The problem with fundamentalists in any belief or lack thereof system is that they tend to be total asshats.

What, pray tell, are the fundamentals of atheism?

All we share in common is the lack of belief in deities.
