If they are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them drink. If they are cold, give them warmth or shelter. If they are in prison, visit them.
This was a lesson that Christ tried to teach Hid desciples regarding compassion. There were those that were considered disposable people in those days, and Jesus wanted us to extend Love to them. But always after meeting the persons need He wanted most of all the we teach them the way to salvation of the soul. The Gospel Message of the Lord Jesus Christ.
If you hungry, or cold, or thirsty, or in prison, or in some sort of need you are most likely not going to want to hear a preaching of the greatest gift ever given if that gift is primarily for after we die.

The greatest gift you can give some one is the gospel that will send you to heaven when you die. Christ died for your sins, He was buried and took your sins away and He was raised again the third day for your justification. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Salvation is a gift of God. Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

The gift of listening to them and hearing what they say. Everyone wants to be heard and to have someone listen. That is the greatest gift you can give someone. To listen, hear them and give their voice a forum.
