The latest front in culture wars: Atheists attack

The time for polite debate appears to be over. Atheist writers are making an all-out assault on religious faith and reaching the top of best-seller lists, in a possible sign of resentment among nonbelievers over the influence of religion in the world.

Christopher Hitchens’ book God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything has sold briskly since it was published last month, and his debates with clergy are drawing crowds at every stop.

Wel Well Well.. Do you see! This is why I post so many End Times Articles because when you start eliminating GOD you know what happens? He goes away! then you know what happens? you are doomed! Life will be 1 million per cent of Pure Hell with all the accomodations.... Please Stay Strong in your faith no matter how many times Satan Knocks at your door, he will go away if you don't answer, because GOD is our rock and salvation..Don't you agree?

That sounds like a fantastic B-movie.

No.

And I think youre the perfect candidate to read Mr. Hitchen's Book. Look - you are OBNVIOUSLY strong in your faith, which I admire. Why not challenge that - Im not asking you to change your faith - I just ask that you read what Hitchens has to say and consider it. Much of it makes sense, like when he speaks of how Muslims in Nigeria spread lies about the polio vaccine being a conspiracy by the West to sterilize "true believers" - it ended up spreading polio all over parts of Africa where it had been eradicated...

Religion really does have a way of poisoning everything. Open your mind, expand your horizons, and read an opinion that differs from yours. You might actually learn something. In fact, its the reason many of us atheists read the Bible and other books on religion - we wouldnt be as well educated in it if we didnt, would we?

Anyone else just seeing this as the title of a film where all atheists sprout tentacles and shoot lasers at the religious and churches, before disappearing into a sub-space anomaly to go and attack the god that lives in that parallel universe?

The entire stock of 'The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life' sold out in its first day, but wasn't widely believed for years. Don't worry, you're safe ... for now *looks shifty*...

No, I don't agree. If god was never there, he can't go away. I can totally agree that I resent the some of the influences of religions throughout the world, especially when they try to influence societies' laws to reflect their morality.

Thank you, Crimmsonandclover, for your willingness to speak up! I can't help but notice the number of times I have seen complaints about Christians being rude on Y!A, despite the fact that nearly every rude question that I have seen posted in this section has been a direct attack on Christianity. I'm not advocating the 'might as well make it true' attitude, but I wonder of many of us haven't been beaten into submission. How many times have people started to post a question or an answer, only to change their mind for fear of being blasted?

Matthew 10:22 "All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved."

Luke 6:22-23 "Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets."

Luke 21:17-19 "All men will hate you because of me.
"But not a hair of your head will perish.
"By standing firm you will gain life."

I really do believe that you have gone off the deep end. Why do you do this? Do you have a martyr complex? That's how it seems to me. You post things and 90% of the answers you get are oppositional and then you feel righteous and beleagured. That's a martyr complex....I hope you enjoy the feeling.

When the atheists land...I'll have my Spiritual hat on and a Bible ready to swat the unholy tar out of em! :P

They have been such a nuscience...here on Y.A!!

Like cockroaches scrambling to hide back under the fridge when you start to shine light on them.
The Light being the Truth of God! :0)))))))

John C- Glad to see that at least you recognize the power God has to do just that if He wanted to!!! Fortunately for you and all others who think like you He is waiting and patient.

Learn to be humble and watch over what has rolled off your tongue.

Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 21

28 The lips of the unwise will be telling foolish things but the words of the wise shall be weighed in a balance. 29 The heart of fools is in their mouth: and the mouth of wise men is in their heart.

Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 20

6 There is one that holdeth his peace, because he knoweth not what to say: and there is another that holdeth his peace, knowing the proper time. 7 A wise man will hold his peace till he see opportunity: but a babbler, and a fool, will regard no time. 8 He that useth many words shall hurt his own soul: and he that taketh authority to himself unjustly shall be hated. 9 There is success in evil things to a man without discipline, and there is a finding that turneth to loss. 10 There is a gift that is not profitable: and there is a gift, the recompense of which is double.

Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 27

29 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that setteth a stone for his neighbour, shall stumble upon it: and he that layeth a snare for another, shall perish in it. 30 A mischievous counsel shall be rolled back upon the author, and he shall not know from whence it cometh to him.

31 Mockery and reproach are of the proud, and vengeance as a lion shall lie in wait for him. 32 They shall perish in a snare that are delighted with the fall of the just: and sorrow shall consume them before they die. 33 Anger and fury are both of them abominable, and the sinful man shall be subject to them.

"When Atheists Attack"
wasn't that a really lame fox tv show where they show random short home video clips of atheists taking down religious fundies all while Robert Urich made stupid comments?

Any book that an athiest writes, it does not move the foundation I am on with God. I do not read material that is not of God... This is one opinion of an athiest and my Book is the Word of God. I have no desire to read anything that athiests believe/do not believe in...
If I read this book, it would take away from reading my Bible...
