In this world of "entitlement", equality will never be realized. Religious people expect certain entitlements based on their religion. Too many minorities expect some kind of entitlement based on their minority status (and more often than not get it). Young people are growing up thinking they are entitled to everything, whether they earn it or not.
My view is, I have earned what I have; I expect and ask for absolutely nothing else. I owe nothing to religion, minorities, or lazy youngsters. If you want something earn it yourself, or deal with not having it. Equality will never be allowed, because someone will come up with a bs excuse as to why they "deserve" something they do not EARN. Feel free to give your opinions, but don't expect others to agree.

Gorgeous txwoman: Higher education is a commendable goal. In this case, federal and state grants are NOT entitlements, but aiding someone in their efforts to HELP THEMSELVES. This is one of the government policies that I DO support.

I agree except for one problem. Higher Education.

I am a single mother who never finished college. All my life I have lived paycheck to paycheck. My own stupidity and spilled milk.

I want my son to go to college. I don't want him to graduate owing $100,000. He should be entitled to an education same as Barbara Bush. I also think that he should maintain a B average as well.

Does anyone else see the inequity in that situation?

I agree, hard work is the only path to fulfillment. Those that say they are being held back are making excuses. Personally I grew up in a family that was not wealthy but not poor. They could not afford to pay for my college so I joined the military and let them pay for it. It took a lot longer and a lot of hard work but I received my BSBA and MBA while working full time in the Air Force. Once I retired I went back to school and finished up. Nothing was given to me I earned it. That is what the youth need to understand, work=success.

I define entitlements as a safety net for people who cannot or choose not to provide for themselves. It is not a racial thing, more socioeconomics. I used to complain to my spouse about people who were in public housing and on food stamps. He straightened me out really quickly by telling me to be glad I didn't have to rely on the government. Sure, there is abuse of the system but I would never want a child to go hungry or without a roof over their head because his/her parents couldn't or chose not to make enough money.

Communism?

Equality is impossible. We are NOT all created equal, by any conceivable standard. Even the idea of equal treatment under the law is flawed, because it assumes that all people want the same things.

Equality is a varied and large subject. One can talk about equality under law, equality of treatment and wages, or other forms of equality.

But over all "equality" will only be reached when we accept that all of us are humans just like each other regardless of our race, religion, sexual preference, etc...

Your debt is to GOD and the debt he paid for you to have eternal life..but entitlement to those who squander you are right and owe nothing..
